CIS has learned that Miami has made contact with Independence C.C. (KS) CB Dontye Carriere-Williams.

Originally a 3-star corner from St. Thomas Aquinas that signed with Wisconsin in the class of 2016, Carriere-Williams is in a unique situation in that he requested and received his full release from Wisconsin at the very end of fall camp just 3 weeks ago. Carriere-Williams was in touch with a few FBS schools, including Miami, to make a direct transfer, but it was already so late in the registration process for many schools and he missed required add-drop dates. He also would have had to sit out this season entirely due to NCAA transfer regulations.

Instead, Carriere-Williams elected to play junior college ball this season and jumped to Independence, a school best-known for being featured on the most recent season of Netflix’s documentary series, “Last Chance U”. Miami is no stranger to the program, as they have heavily pursued Independence 4-star DE Jermaine Johnson in this cycle. After naming Miami to his top 6 back in May, Johnson recently committed to UGA.

As for Carriere-Williams, he came into 2018 as Wisconsin’s most experienced cornerback and was expected to be the Badgers’ #1 corner. As a redshirt freshman in 2017, he played in 14 games (five starts) as the third cornerback, recording 30 tackles, seven pass break-ups, and an interception. Carriere-Williams started and had 4 tackles and a QB hurry in Wisconsin’s Orange Bowl win over Miami to end last season.

However, Carriere-Williams (who is listed at 5’10” 190 pounds) had primarily been working with the second team defense in fall camp to start 2018 and made his decision to transfer after he was listed on the second string of UW’s week 1 depth chart.

Miami will keep an eye on his progress this season at Independence and evaluate Carriere-Williams for a potential offer in the class of 2019. Carriere-Williams will start out as a redshirt junior and have 2 years to play 2 at the college of his choice next fall.

Interesting.

Is Malik Henry still there too? Talented but man. The Richts don't want those problems! LOL

I think a vast majority of Power 5 coaches don't want that problem either. But I'd take Williams in a cold minute given that we lose all of our experienced CBs sans Bandy after this season. And yes, fully aware that the current Fr will have gained experience. I also wouldn't mind if the staff would look into GT/JUCO Safeties as well given that right now the only returners next year are Carter, Hall and (gulp) Knowles.

i would take this kid. he's not a wake forest kid who couldnt get on the field there lol

That's so funny.

I was literally looking at their roster and website 2 days ago to see how their team was doing and saw his name (because I was looking for players from Florida). A couple of other interesting things for those of you who watched "LAST CHANCE U" - Malik Henry is back - and thru 3 games he is the 4th or 5th quarterback on the depth chart. Another FSU head case QB.

Also Jermaine Johnson - from Eden Prairie, MN - which is where I live - is the nations top ranked juco DE (I believe) (committed to Georgia). They are one of only a couple football powerhouses up here. Eden Prairie is constantly in the mix for national rankings every year. Granted they are no Florida school - but they run a really good program and their head coach was in the mix for the Gopher's job.

somethings wrong when: "he came into 2018 as Wisconsin’s most experienced cornerback and was expected to be the Badgers’ #1 corner;

Would be a great pickup and allow us to move Frierson to FS which I think is his best position moving forward.

CB Williams Ivey Couch
CB Bandy Blades Brownlee
FS Hall Frierson
SS Carter K Smith

Pretty good depth and adding Dent would be awesome.

alot of people say frierson is a safety. why is that?

Couch im very high on. once that kid puts on some weight, he is going to be very good. he is aggressive and instinctial. i think he's a steal.

It sounds like he doesn't want competition, if he quits because he was moved to the 2nd unit. I don't want anymore quitters on this team. 6 years with Golden is enough.

there have a been a couple guys on that wisconsin defense that have left the program recently. probably something other than "not wanting to compete"

Are they filming Season 2 from there? If so I know I got my popcorn ready to see what is going on now that MHenry isn't starting. I know its a **** show over there.

Wouldn't mind the take re Williams. I am glad they are jumping on this stuff early and not waiting. If they know we will need CB depth. Start looking now. We **** sure better be looking for a OT and a DT who can play right away next year.

I like Brownlee and couch a lot, still don’t like the damarious good take but if you add the juco cb to the mix then that’s a solid group. Definitely not better than last year but still solid nonetheless.

Ill say this Wisconsin is a greatly coached team especially on defense with Jim Leonard who is a rising star d coordinator so him being 2nd string means something so if you get him and id imagine he wants to come home cool but im not stressing
