New football league coming I see

More like old football league. Why they think it will succeed this time....

I would love to see the NFL have to face up to some serious competition. Still won't happen yet, in part because I think the allegiances to the well-established teams are too deeply ingrained in most people. That could change, though. I used to consider myself a hardcore Dolphins fan. Had season tickets for many years. This past season, though, I don't think I watched a full single quarter of Dolphins football. To me, the NFL game has become so ponderous.

I lived in Orlando during the one season of XFL football and had season tickets for the Rage. There's no pro teams in Orlando besides the Magic so it was fun to get out to the Citrus Bowl for games but the actual football sucked. Bad. Sloppy and boring with a majority of the players being guys I'd never head of. (Although former 'Cane James Burgess played for Orlando) I'd imagine it's what having a minor league baseball team is like with the exception that some minor league guys might become stars, whereas XFL guys were has beens or never-will-bes.

The only pro football league I can remember having any kind of success, besides the NFL, was the old USFL in the 1980's. They were able to snag some of the top names coming out of college and develop some modest fan bases. They had some success because they used to play during the NFL off season. When Donald Trump convinced some of the other owners to change the season to go head to head with the NFL, they got curb stomped and went out of business.

The 2020 launch date is problematic for its success because everything it'll be framed to be and marketed as may not be as powerful by then.

Ol' Vince is probably thinking a couple of things in his motivation here.

1) They're obviously tight with Trump and what they believe can be sold to that market. So you'll DEFINITELY hear the anthem and mandatory "respect" mentioned about how the XFL will run. I bet they also are heavily concentrated in SEC Country with these franchises.

2) They'll go back to some faux version of their product being more "violent" than the now sissified NFL. This will all be purely from a marketing stance with no actual on-field difference aside from letting guys push and shove after whistles.

3) They'll pretend to clearly define what a catch is and will run ads mocking the NFL about this.

In the end, it'll all quickly fail as the demise of the NFL has been VASTLY overstated and overestimated by those either with political agendas or those in the media that just hate football.

my understanding is if you take a knee during the anthem, you get a Stone Cold Stunner

The worst thing to happen to pro football was the NFL and AFL merger. The AFL games were really exciting. The concept of a Super Bowl pitting the champions of the two leagues was better than pitting conference champions.

Time for James Jackson’s bro to shine

Can’t wait. The more football available to bet the better.

I'm with you but it is funny that some people also say that TOO MUCH current product is hurting the NFL. The non-stop whining about Thursday games alone.

I think you should let the league be wide open.

Guys drinking beer on the sidelines
Allow fighting like Hockey in a faux WWE styled format
Allow guys to argue with and push the refs
Faux bribes
Fan Voting for controversial calls on the field

Would be 1000000X more interesting if they can take kids straight out of high school

They then would be a "farm" league like baseball. It's a pipe dream that they would get any lucrative TV deal... not happening unless the NFL goes completely belly up.

It's completely privately financed by McMahon. He already said he isn't concerned with TV ratings because he's going to look at unconventional streaming platforms like YouTube and Amazon. 52 week contracts. I don't think it's going to work, but it's not the same model what-so-ever as its predecessor that was tied to NBC
