Speed is important as a WR but why people feel it's the end all is beyond me. If speed was the special technique and routes wouldn't be so important. I'll take the WR with good speed but is a killer route runner any day. This tape is very impressive
Who said speed is the end all? It's specifically become an issue at Miami, which it never should at this program, because we haven't landed breakaway speed at WR from our recruiting base in each of the last two years. Waters/Scott are gone after this year and Coley will be a senior once this class arrives. After that, where's the speed in our receiving core? Our roster is getting slower and slower, which is a serious problem at a program like ours where speed/explosiveness should always be a built-in advantage. Especially at the skill positions.
If our current WR commits stick, then that changes because Bruce and Richards are elite, Mullins is talented, and Henderson has plenty of physical tools. But there's a very real possibility of at least Bruce (UF) and/or Richards (Auburn) bolting if this season is the disappointment everyone expects.
Johnson looks like a nice fit at a program like Purdue. Reliable possession receiver with good hands. I don't see him as a Miami-caliber receiver and I don't see what seemingly everyone else in this thread does about this kid. I think we need to aim higher. Hope he kills it wherever he goes, though.
We have speed. Tyre Brady is football fast. Berrios is pretty fast. There is speed on this corps and some coming in. Don't get caught up on those 40 times to much bra.

You claim we have speed. This is Miami. I don't feel we have anywhere near enough of it at the skill positions, especially with Waters/Scott being gone after this season and Coley heading into his senior year. If we hang onto our stud WR commits, then it won't be an issue. But that seems pretty unlikely for a variety of reasons (Golden's track record with decommitments, potentially awful season on the horizon, etc).
We respectfully disagree about Brady being football fast. Berrios should be fast again now that he's had more time to recover from his ACL surgery. Cager is a stud who runs well for his size, but he's not a burner. Langham and D'Mauri Jones are big and slow. Malcolm Lewis isn't fast. You said we have speed, but you mentioned just 2 receivers and one of them isn't actually fast (Brady).
No one has said speed is everything for a receiver. No one is even harping on the importance of a 40 time. But, IMO, anyone who doesn't see our team getting slower at the skill positions and isn't willing to acknowledge that it's a problem is putting the blinders on.
Kid looks plenty fast to me. Great routes, attacks the ball, excellent hands.

It's hysterical that you worded it that way as if Cooper isn't fast. He runs 4.42. He's always been incredibly well-rounded and speed is a big part of his game. Nice try, though. Also odd that you sarcastically called him irrelevant when f***ing every Miami fan wanted him coming out of high school. Again, nice try.
