Napier...

Mario left because working for Saban is more valuable than working for Golden.

The rumor on Napier started on CS where a poster "knows Jedd Fisch" and Fisch seems to believe we are waiting on Napier to fill the receiver/co-oc position.

I'm sure its a shot in the dark to seem like he actually has a source if it comes true.

But, yes Banda started following him on twitter and he followed back (that could be why he started the rumor imo)

Napier would be a good hire and it seems to match up... we are waiting, bama still playing, etc. Not to mention we have a co-oc position to offer, with potentially a recruiting coordinator tag, and in 2013 he was making 300k at Bama so it shouldn't be much if any higher than that. Seems that just based off being a position coach/co-oc we would be able to offer him a salary Bama would probably choose not to match. Maybe 400k would be enough

The perception of what Bama pays every member of its staff is more inflated than the idea of SEC "supremacy". We still have dolts around here thinking Luigi left here after 48 seconds on the job because Saban dangled some massive payday in front of him along with a queso pastelito. Yeah, Bama pays well but they won't destroy anyone in an automatic bidding war if you attempt to promote someone from their staff.

Mario said it himself working at bama under Saban is like getting a Ph.D. In the college coaching profession

Its possible we hire QB coach and make Jon Richt quality control or player development.

I think that's why its realistic. Our WR coach has to be our other co-oc, and I'm 100% that they aren't giving that title to KB, so Napier is a fair target. I'd say he takes the promotion and a decent raise.

I hope KB gets an ops job but idk if he would accept that now

Interesting rumor.

Would allow Richt to make his son official QB coach groomed by Napier and daddy. Napier has QB coach experience.

It would look like this...

CO-OC/WR Billy Napier
CO OC/RB Thomas Brown
QB Jon Richt
OL Stacey Searels
TE Todd Hartley

Napier and Brown install the game plan and coordinate offense for CMR to call plays on Saturdays. CMR spends alot of time training QB's in tandem with his son.

There is no chance in **** Richt goes into next year with Richt Jr., Beard, Brown and Hartley as his offensive staff. Way too green.

CMR wants to be "hands on", but that doesn't mean he is going to be a position coach. Jimbo has always had a QB coach even thought he is the true QB coach.

This would be a strong move.

It will really bug me if Mark uses one of our limited coaches spots for his son. Give the kid a job with a title that does not take a veteran coach off our staff. We need all the real coaching we can get after the last 10 years.

Napier is the lowest paid coach on Bama's staff at $340k.

This could be a rumor to get himself a raise or it could be true.

Harbaugh's son works for him.

It's very common throughout the NFLK and NCAA....

Buccaneers Lovie Smith (head coach) Mikal Smith (safety coach)
Bengals Marvin Lewis (head coach) Marcus Lewis (defensive assistant)
Chiefs Andy Reid (head coach) Britt Reid (quality control)
Rams Jeff Fisher (head coach) Brandon Fisher (assistant secondary coach)
Patriots Bill Belichick (head coach) Steve Belichick (coaching assistant)
Seahawks Pete Carroll (head coach) Nate Carroll (assistant WR coach)
Vikings Mike Zimmer (head coach) Adam Zimmer (LB coach)
Vikings Norv Turner (offensive coordinator) Scott Turner (QB coach)

It works well if there are experienced coaches around him.

Diaz was making 575k at MSU.

Gotta think he was offered a raise. My guess is 650k.

This is a bad rumor coming from some dunce on Canesport who said his brother-in-law is friend's with Jedd Fisch and that Jedd said that is who Richt is targeting. First and foremost, its a lateral move for the guy and there is no chance we are going to outbid Bama.

Wouldn't be a lateral move at all, and, like I said the other day, Richt might be holding that co-OC title along with an AHC title for a big time WR coach hire. This guy would fit that bill. He'd also get a big raise.

We saved money with the DC.

I hope we saved money on that hire. If they paid him anything more than Dumbnofrio was stealing, then Richt got fleeced.

He was due to make 600k this coming year and 625 next. Also, had a 265k buyout. I'm assuming Diaz making atleast 750k to make that move

Napier could be the QB coach with Beard coaching WR's.

I would be very surprised if CMR doesn't hire an experienced QB coach.

McIlwain has Nussmier
Harbaugh has Fisch
Jimbo has Sanders

etc.....

The only way Beard stays on the staff is if we hire an experienced QB coach to be CO-OC.

I am praying Dorsey is the guy. It's very unlikely he gets an NFL OC job anytime soon unless Shula gets a HC gig.

There are very few NFL OC's that get their first coordinator job in the league.

Chud was an OC in college
Bill Lazor was an OC at Virginia before his NFL gig.
Dirk Koetter was a OC in colege for many years before his first NFL gig.

Adam Gase was an assistant coach for 15 years before he got an OC gig.

Josh McDaniels is a guy that moved up very quickly.

Dorsey can speed his career arc up tremendously by taking the Miami CO-OC job.

Ken is way to green right now.

I think lil richt is a official coach because he was announced with kool and brown. You don't announce ga or quality control guys with your official staff.

Says who?

We announced our entire strength staff.

Maybe daddy wanted to get his son's name in the paper.

If Richt Jr is the QB coach Beard will not have a job here.

The fact that Beard doesn't know leads me to believe that Richt is looking at QB coaches.

There will 100% be another CO-OC on the staff that is a position coach and I guarantee it will not be Mark Richt, Kevin Beard or Jon Richt.

It's called deductive reasoning.

This dumbass word wasn't funny the first five hundred times it was used. Same with the use of savage and many others people parrot around here after johnie stand-up spits it out.
Ok, change is good sometimes... how about sorcerer or sorcerers??? That way, if the info turns out to be bad, instead of bad sauces, we can chalk it up to bad sorcery.

Agreed. I know no one wants this to be true, but it most likely is the case.

Some of these Bama fanboys would claim us hiring their ballboy as WR coach would be a lateral move because they're so enraptured by Alabama and the SEC.

Haha. Exactly. WHY would anyone leave Bama EVER?!!! Stop dreaming!!!!

Ummm... have you ever been there?

Do you like more money?

Just saying.

I dont know about this guy in particular, but it appears there is a quite a bit of dough left out of the 3 mill for assistants and its really to much for just a WR coach. While i wouldnt mind seeing beard on this staff, I think we really need a CO-OC and a recruiting coordinator. Those two far outweigh the need for an incredible WR coach. WR coach is usually a place you hide your lower coaches at anyways.

The need for a recruiting coordinator likely means it wont be an NFL guy.

How many college WR coaches can also be a CO-OC and a recruiting coordinator?

Why is it the last position filled?

Because only dopes think recruiting coordinator is on the same level of importance as you're making it out to be.

The support staff (guys like Baez) do most of the nitty gritty on that, from what I understand. At its heart, "recruiting coordinator" is a title you give an assistant to get them paid more. Brennan Carroll used to be our recruiting coordinator. Do you think he was some savant recruiter? I don't. And I don't think our recruiting suffered because we didn't have someone else in the role...it suffered because we had too low a hit rate with our evaluations, and because we didn't win enough.
