I'll say it again if you don't understand it. For our recruiting base it's not a good fit. It doesn't matter aggressive or passive and just about all of the coaches schemes listed is 2 gap
Wade Phillips runs a 3-4 that is a one gap scheme. The linemen have 2 gaps and get to shoot one with the linebackers cleaning up the other. The Viper role or whatever Manny and Baker call it in this current defense fits into a 3-4 just fine. For the shorter ends we have and the guys like Joyner who get buried on a depth chart with no potential to ever play it gives them a path to more playing time. Not every lineman recruit we take is a 6’5 250 pound pure defensive end. Phillips, Chantz, Williams, and even Rousseau could easily play a rush OLB role. Roche (a transfer) might not. All of the defensive tackles this program takes would fit it. For the linebackers it depends on the scheme. Huff, TAC, Frierson, and Brooks all fit the type of 3-4 Georgia used to run years ago. FSU and Florida are both running 3-4s and go after the same recruits and the same area as miami.
I’m not advocating a switch to the 3-4 but not every 3-4 is a 350 pound nose tackle with 2 320 pound ends eating blocks so 260 pound thumpers can hit the ball carrier.
