Myth Buster: Talent or Coaching?

Sorry, hard to believe, but at the end of the day Kirby didn’t have an average QB. Kid may be 5-10, yet more athletic & better skill set than might imagine on first look. Could make every throw & use wheels when needed. ****, 25 years old & in system for years. “Average” quarterback ended up drafted in 4th round despite having accumulated some baggage.
Name the last Miami QB who was better? Waiting . . .
If you aren’t someone like King (just an athlete playing QB and had a successful career but never projected to the league), being picked outside of the top 100 means you are average. Don’t care about outliers like Brady, I’m speaking in general. QB is the most important position in all of sports, and you’re telling me almost every team passed on him 4 times, but he’s that good? He starts at a a P5 school, of course he can make throws. But he was nothing special and if he wasn’t playing at UGA, nobody would know his name.

Brad Kaaya had a better career than Stetson. He just didn’t win as much bc his teams and coaches sucked.

I look at the possibility of a significant upswing this way.

We substantially bolstered the offensive line. If that succeeds, everything else starts to work. TVD has more time. The wide receivers have more time. The running backs get bigger holes. Couple that with a competent scheme and there is actually the potential for a strong offensive turnaround. And that could be enough.
Let's see because u need a weapon in the back field that's explosive. I don't know if we have that right now. We got some tap dancers that get chased from behind and can't beat angels.

OK, hold up, 🛑:

I’m seeing there’s a lot of circular reasoning w/ a dash of cognitive dissonance being posted here.

This examination was meant to highlight that throughout the yrs, based upon data, we’ve had enough talent not to beat some of the upper echelon teams, but the teams that we’ve faced consistently every season. It was to show the “Miami doesn’t have enough talent” argument is a moot point, especially when u consider that programs like TCU, Baylor, and Utah, as examples, have accomplished way more w/ far less talent.

But here’s the crux of trying to use circular reasoning; that chit comes back around to kick u in the ***.

So let’s take one point I’ve seen regarding 247:
“Not only is it an "inexact science," but the rankings are basically what happens when you let librarians into the lab to perform the experiments…” @Cryptical Envelopment

OK, here’s the issue w/ this statement; If u say that it’s an inexact science that’s created by some librarians, then this fan base shouldn’t worry about who Bama, UGA, OSU, etc gets. This fan base shouldn’t concern itself w/ the caliber of blue chips we’ve acquired vs. those aforementioned programs. In fact, this fan base shouldn’t even use that terminology, at all: blue chip. This fan base needs to admit that Bama has elite scouting & recruiting, while we apparently do not, & the only thing we should care about is not the stars attached to players we recruit, and just trust the staff, which means if we have a class full of 3-stars, there shouldn’t be any bytching b/c 247 is full of librarians & we implicitly should trust the guys who wear The U on their shirt.

The other argument:
That Mario has developed under the radar kids:

OK, this goes back to 247; supposedly 247 was wrong in its talent evaluation of ALL of our players, which means instead of all those blue chips we allegedly recruited, we really had a team full of under the radar JAGs. Well, that’s great b/c Mario specializes in developing those types, correct? And b4 anyone reasons, “well, Mario recruited those guys” I say scrrrrrrr…pause.

Mario was only at UO for 5 yrs (2017-21), that means he inherited the draft classes of 2019 & 2020, which included 3-star Justin Herbert. He didn’t remotely recruit him, nor did he recruit Shane Lemieux, Troy Dye, Jake Hanson, Ugo Amadi, Justin Hollins, or Jalen Jelks.

This list of 3 star guys that were recruited to UO b4 Mario taking the job as an Co-OC went 13-12 (2015-2016). By the time he became HC, those guys went 20-18 (2015-2017). B/c he’s a “developer of talent”, he went 9-4 in his 1st yr as a HC w/ that 20-18 roster.

Now let’s circle back to Miami, since now all of a sudden 247 is a site that can’t be trusted; let’s say Mario indeed inherited a roster full of JAGs, that roster still went 28-21 from 2018-21. So how do we go 5-7 if he’s the 3-star/under the radar developer/whisperer?

Oh, I get it; Gatass. OK, cool; now Gatass & TrimbleSteele are both gone. The cancers have been removed, the cancers that caused the 5-7 season. Besides maybe a player here or there, we are supposed to be healthy, which was another excuse used for the 5-7 season. So all things considered, if this team remains healthy, why should I expect anything less than 9 wins since I don’t have to worry about 247, Mario has his guys here, he’s a 3-star whisperer, and the cancers are gone?

Didn’t we have one of the best QBs in the country entering last year and ran him into the ground.

You can argue that Manny did exactly the same thing in 2019. The only difference was that we had less of a drop off between J Williams and N Perry than we did with TVD and everyone else. Both teams had terrible offenses, both had bad offensive lines.

Manny got no pass in 2019. Yet Mulligans are being handed out to a more experienced coach with more resources available… weird

Why is it weird? Manny wasn't/isn't the program builder Mario is! Mario knew what we had/didn't have in-house and preached patience.

Are you saying Cristobal is a program builder based on what he did at FIU? Oregon was in no way, shape, or form a rebuild. Cristobal got to Oregon in 2017. The Ducks went 49-24 from 2012-2016. They had a couple down years but it was far from a broken program. If going to hire a guy for a rebuild, then hire a guy who actually rebuilt a dead program (or two) . For example, let's say there was a coach that took over a Sunbelt program that was a raging dumpster fire for several years in a row. Then he won 11 or more games in 2 of the 3 years he was there. Then that HC went to a SEC program and in his 2nd season, led the school to it's 1st 10 win season in the 100+ year history of the program. You could reasonably say THAT coach has a track record of success rebuilding programs.

So if we’ve had enough “talent” why hasn’t that happened? I’d flip your statement. BAMA UGA, Clemson and OSU have enough talent to win 9+ games and compete for conference titles annually no matter injuries or attrition..Miami hasn’t had enough talent to compete for 9+ wins & conference titles no matter attrition throughout a season..those programs you Highlighted are probably the only ones who can say no matter normal injuries factors in a season they should expect to win 9+ and compete for conference titles. Miami hasn’t been close to that

teams like FSU & Texas in 2023 can win 9+ games as easily as they can win 7/6 depending on attrition
Easy, evaluation (get the right ones) and development (coach them up).

Also, not all positions are the same. Dabo makes sure he's well stocked at QB and DT with blue chips. We get them randomly.

Pretty soon y’all will be giving him credit for that blueprint

I need some of these stickers with Mario's face on them to put on gas pumps

Ok, Bennett was the 7th QB selected in the draft. If that makes him average, then there’s a boatload of ****** quarterbacks.
Kaaya had a better career than Bennett? Really?

What? LOL.

I am saying follow the offers. If you don't trust your own team's coaching staff, then follow the offers from the coaches you do. Certainly over a bunch of guys who aren't qualified to be GA's for a D3 program and just decided they were scouts one day. The "librarians" aka the website hacks are absolute amateurs who are, even worse, CORRUPT. And no, it's not "all of a sudden 247 is a site that can’t be trusted," anyone who has EVER trusted these hacks is a fool. That is my opinion and it has been for years, in writing. Flush it where you want!:) I've broken it down 100x on here at length, I'm catching a redeye in a bit so that's all I've got time for. But nah.

Safe travels, holmes. But I’m busting ur chops as soon as u land. (Pause; lol).

Look at the numbers and look at who they played with. Kaaya did more with less.

Yes there are a bunch of ****** QB’s in football. There are 10-15 good QB’s in the NFL. It’s why coaches and GM’s get fired every year.
