My Thoughts

I include last week in this stretch. He just hasn't looked like himself. He's not confident in this O right now, and his receivers aren't helping him at all.
One of these two things alone is a major problem, but combine the two together and you get a nightmare. I don’t see the receivers getting much better — they are what they are. That’s why I said we might have to consider giving Jake a shot if TVD can’t shake this funk that he’s in. It’s really our only option.

I don't disagree. It's an option we'll need to consider if TVD can't get out of this rut. These WRs need to step up. I think they'll be better, on account of the competition they'll be playing. They shouldn't have an issue against a team like UNC or FSU, but Clemson and Pitt will be challenges.

Me and some of my friends have discussed this. It felt like we were playing to keep it close , not win. I never felt like we were trying to go take this game. Like staying close and extending the game was the goal.
THAT

is the part that is stinging for me right now

Not Gattis. Not TVD. Not scheme. Not talent.

The fact that there are a few moments in a game where everything comes into focus

I liked a lot of what I saw tonight

But in those moments, when push really came to shove…we wimped out. Something I did not expect from this team

Spot on OP @Genghis Cane btw

Parrish. Ivey. The DL. Rivers. Kam. Mallory coming back after looking like he broke his neck.

The team showed a lot of balls tonight. Not sure the coaches did in critical moments….but also some glaring GLARING talent issues
Parrish was an animal out there. If he had Knighton’s speed, he’d be one of the best RBs in the country.

Loved how we created pressure all night. Johnson had dudes in his face constantly.

Fair. I think not throwing it into the end zone when we were in the red zone fall in line with that theory. Very conservative.

This play ****ed me off. All routes were run within the 10 yard mark. You pass the ball to the running back and gets manhandled. No one is even looking at the QB. They are all running without even looking t see if the ball is being thrown to them. Lol
Edit: it does seem like the play was designed for the RB.
Im guessing they were thinking they would get man coverage and wanted to set Rooster up, the crossing routes is to pick the lb playing man.. but they ran zone and we were stuck

Bruh other coached cane teams would of collapsed vs talent like that after the muffed punt. Proud of the guys I expected a loss but they competed vs a team with a loaded roster. Last year we lose this game by a lot.
I feel this way too

My bar has been set low the last few years but seeing guys like 56, 8, 85, 11 battling and making plays was good

Im not into moral victories but there were some things I saw that were positive changes

I have concerns as well, but I saw some good things

This is going to be my attempt to provide a nuanced take to what we all witnessed tonight.

1) Gattis deserves some criticism for our red-zone offense, as some calls were simply bizarre, but I think he did an admirable job considering a myriad of glaring offensive weaknesses. See below:

— The WR room is a travesty. George has the most upside, but he lacks consistency. The rest of those players are simply not dependable.

— TVD is off. He looks like he’s seeing ghosts out there. You can’t constantly second guess yourself as a QB. If this continues, you have to roll Jake out there just to see if he can provide a spark.

2) It hasn’t been said enough so allow me to highlight something: our OL kicked *** tonight. The holding penalties in the 4th quarter sucked, but outside of that, they dominated a talented d-line. We pretty much did whatever we wanted offensively, until the inevitable collapses in the red zone. Run blocking and pass protection deserve an A+.

3) The defense was spectacular. Our defensive backs and d-line played great. Flagg was solid at LB and looked like a general back there. Yes, yes….his limited athleticism hurts us at times, but he makes up for it because he’s such a smart player.

4) Special teams cost us the game. The muffed punt was a killer and obviously the field goal situation didn’t help matters. You simply cannot go on the road against a premier SEC team and gift them points — simple as that.

5) Mario was too conservative at times. We had nothing to lose; however, it didn’t seem like we played that way. I was disappointed to see the lack of urgency in the 4th quarter, too. We can’t afford to use the entire play clock before every snap when we’re playing from behind.

Overall: I’m ****ed because we should have won that game, but I don’t understand a lot of the doom and gloom posts on here. We need to execute better — period. And it’s now gut-check time for TVD. Let’s see how he responds, but I would tell Jake that he needs to be ready to go at all times.
Hard to disagree with most of this. Def have some big holes in this roster but feel like past few years our teams would have gotten smoked and embarrassed here. Coaches def played it safe with play calling as if they were just trying to avoid that embarrassing loss of past seasons. That one goal line series it was almost like it was decided we'd settle for a FG before the first play was run from 1st and goal from the 10. It was like if we score great, if not we at least made it a bit closer. We obviously are missing that playmaker/go to guy but we couldn't draw up anything? **** we didn't even take a shot at it. Instead we draw up a designed QB run with TVD?

If that's how they are gonna call things all season I fear we will end up in a lot of close dog fights with teams we wouldn't expect to be in a 1 score game with.

Desperately need to close on some of those marquee WR recruiting targets and hit the portal hard.

I never felt urgency. Even on the last two drives.
It was maddening, especially in a game where you have been struggling to score and have limited possessions. You can’t sit back and waste the entire playclock trying to design the perfect play; you just have to roll with it and hope your QB can make the right decisions.

I don’t like watching our games and hearing Kirk and Fowler try their best not to criticize our coaches because they are supposed to be unbiased

I’ve been listening to it for way too long and I don’t like it

I was really unhappy about how we played out th series after it was 2nd and 30

Ultimately it didn’t matter but that was extremely poor management of the situation I thought

The goal wasn’t to win. We played to not get run outta the building. Our offense was there to control the ball and the clock. And once Jimbo got the lead, that was his goal as well.

I would have liked to see a “Richt special” on one of those red-zone series — throw a fade to the corner and hope George or Mallory can make a play.

No excuse for playing for a last minute TD and 2 point conversion to tie the game when you haven’t been able to score a TD all night

If it’s a 56-48 game that’s one thing…but the game did not dictate that at all

Imho, Mario was trying to project calm to a team that's **** the bed and panicked in the past. However, even if that was the goal, there has to be urgency when we're down with less than 5 to go in the game. Seems to me like he doesn't completely trust this team's psyche yet, and thought that a fourth down failure in the RZ, down 17-6, would deflate this team and open the floodgates. Gotta be better and have confidence in these guys, but I understand that we don't see them everyday like he does.

Tell recruits “ hey with all that talent we still had a chance to tie them at the end. Imagine if we had close to the same roster“
