*I go by film and reading some guys stuff not his board and 1 other*

Ranking 2018 class needs assuming only 3rd string or worse attrition from here on out, and factoring in the 2 grad transfers

Urgent: CB/TE/DT/K(unless you have a good walk on)
Definite: DE/QB/RB/WR/S
Build Depth, Get Good ones: OL/LB
Ignore or Be Very picky: P

QB: A-. Not a QB guru, but Jarren Williams is a top 12-15 signal caller in my eyes. Smooth runner, nice size, like the way he leads his receiver. Motion is slightly long, but not ridiculously so.

RB: A- I like both Lingard and Davis , think both have a very high floor. Like Davis's no nonsense running style and it looks like he added some feet his senior year. Even though the stats aren't there for Davis, the tape is. Lingard isn't the easiest projection because of a funky running style, and the amount of quick hitters on his film. But the size/speed/power combo is there, and the kid seems to be a relentless worker. Both backs have been complimented on their hands as well. George the FB was needed for Richt's offense, and should give about 6-12 plays a game, and has an outside chance to be a DT imo. Need to keep the kid off twitter imo. Play ball. I wouldn't argue with an A here and UM got the kids they wanted

WR: A Little bit of everything here, and I honestly think Ezzard may end up the most complete of the bunch (I also think there is a small, small chance Ezzard could end up a safety here, but he looks like a WR for now) I think he's underrated and his senior stuff showed improved speed which was the ? mark. Pope the most explosive, and can be a big slot, while also a returner. He is somewhere between Santana Moss and Stacy Coley, has Moss's choppy stride when he runs, just not quite that blazing other gear... Don't like that despite being old for grade he couldn't make it in early. Has excellent separation and runs crisp routes, needs strength. Wigginsis all upside, but has excellent size and good speed. Hightower s extremely polished and the kid looked excellent during all-star week practice and game. Highest floor of all 4, and will play early imo. Have heard Hankerson comparisons and I could def see that. Only gamble is Wiggins, and he looks worth it from an upside projection.

TE A+ Two absolute studs with different games. Jordan looks like he could be an i-formation RB, and just knows how to play the game. Mallory must stay healthy but is as talented as anyone in this class. Home run for Hartley here.

OL A- Still want to find that prototype left tackle, hopefully Herbert can handle that. Loved Scaiffe from day 1 and his stock soared. Looks like he can play anywhere on line (LT prob pushing it), but I'm not opposed to center as was discussed when he first committed? Reed is an SEC road grader offensive guard. I'm not an O-line expert but Cambpell to me isn't spectacular, but definitely plays mean, and isn't a statue. Future RT imo. Impressive haul off of last year

K Baxa, hopefully he's good, Richt has a history of excellent specialists and returners.

DT B- Like what we got in Sivera and Miller ,but needed more...And I know redshirts aren't exactly en vogue in cfb like they were 10 yers ago, but Miller needs that shirt. Strength and conditioning is all he's missing right now. I could listen to Silvera give an interview and watch him play football all day. I'm not sure if he's a 5*, but he is a top 10 caliber defensive tackle, and you can't teach "nasty"

DE C Needed more here as well. Rousseau is the kind of flyer you take and staff seems to love him.

----DL as a whole C- ...Fell short. Chatman was big loss here as I liked his tape, and the versatility to play some end could have helped at both spots. We are short on numbers, and this was a bush league job for a need position... You can be picky one year on the lines, you can't do it two consecutive years. You need to have numbers Glad to keep #1 target Silvera home though. If I could grade this process, urgency, and numbers process alone it would be an F

LB B Unlike some, I couldn't argue with the staff being satisfied with just 1. Wouldn't have argued with 2, but 1 is fine imo and no need to force at the position. Joyner uncoils when he hits ya, and outside possibly coverage, he checks all boxes. Some similarities with Mcloud who has been up and down at UM so far. I think he stays put at LB at 6'2 210 right now.

CB B It was hard to miss in Sofla this year at DB, even mores than usual, but CB imo could have been better. Think Blades has real upside, but must show it on the field as opposed to camps. He's a risk/reward tape, but I think stays at corner. Ivey is a take for sure, but imo not in the same boat as some of the guys we missed on. Has the length, but doesn't always look fluid to me, especially on his interception returns which speak to his overall athleticism. The small chance Bethel probably had to play WR may have sailed when we missed at AH but landed Ezzard. I like Bethel's tape on both sides, but he needs weight for sure. Think he was a good take, and we need that school moving forward. Not sure about all the returner talk with him...maybe KO returner as his speed warrants a shot. Frierson could help here, but I love the kid as a safety and that's where I'll list him. If he sticks at corner, all the better.

Safety A Like I said I'm counting Frierson here, and he looks like a smoooooth FS. Not a thumper, but not lacking for physicality (not a Redwine for instance). But the length, instincts, and ball skills look good to me. Hall has all that except size and he will take your head off. My favorite player in this class and could see up at either safety spot. Reminds me of a tad faster, longer, Jaquan Johnson. I think he's a starter at UM relatively soon

------Entire Secondary Grade B+ ...But if Bethel or Frierson can shore up corner, then we did well here. Glad Rumph, unlike Kul, at least landed numbers, and Bethel is a smart take imo.

Offense Grade: A
Defense Grade: B-

Class Grade A- (wouldn't argue with B+ due to the incomplete at defensive line, but there are a lot of weapons on offense)

Dade Grade: A 8/10 or 8/11 depending on whether Thornton had an offer and that includes Jobe
Broward Grade: D+ The continued thorn in UM's side. This is what Mike Rumph was hired to improve. We land 2 out of 9 counting Chatfield's, Austin, and R.Louis as offers

Local Grade including Palm Beach (1-1, got best player) = B+...History shows us UM will alway bat better in Dade than Broward, but Broward needs to be better.

Needs for next year at this point, operating under the assumption of Frierson at S and no other major position changes besides possibly a safety moving to LB. This is obviously early, as there will be transfers and unfortunately injuries this summer and after next season

Urgent: DE/DT/LB
Definite: OL/CB/RB/S/QB
Build Depth, Be Selective: WR/TE
Pass or Be very picky: K/P (unless Baxa is a flop and Feagles doesn't improve)

-Some Random Thoughts:

-The January recruitment of Chatfield is an interesting one...Was his offer pulled late because he told us Gators or because we got sick of him? BC if it's the latter I don't see how you do that and risk any others at AH (Which I'm not saying happened, but he lives with Surtain, and is obv tight with Silvera). Also if his offer was "pulled" we, as fans can't bytch about his little hat antics. Is he "can't miss" no, but with all the room, I would have stayed on him that late.

That said a kid like Chatfield proves what UM's up against...Cried JUST BC he didn't get an offer, but doesn't seem like he wanted to come anyway. Mind boggling.

- Tyson Campbell and his father's love affair with Mel Tucker is hilarious. How bad does UM run? We had to recruit against Mel Tucker for the only actual Mel Tucker fans in the word apparently. Dogshyt coordinator he is.

- I wouldn't object to a Rumph firing at this point...Kul did the lazier job though, at least Rumph tried. But can't really fire Kul due to his coaching. Be nice if Rumph just moved on. As I've stated before, I certainly hope Rumph doesn't act like it's all love when he sees Chad Wilson and Surtain Sr. (mores Wilson obv), because it's painfully obvious they don't hold him in much regard. We all had reservations about the defensive staff recruiting wise when hired, but I certainly understand why Richt thought Rumph would work.

- Kul getting taken to church by FSU for both Briggs and Chatman, neither of who could commit to FSU in mid-january, is comical.

- Something about our recruiting annoys me...It comes off as too **** social media desperate. What the **** do I know though, this is just an opinion, and I understand today's kids are raised in a social media culture.

-It was funny watching Ferman be wrong even when he was right: Tuesday he said UM was almost out for both corners and that Cambpell was Bama, and Surtain was LSU lol.

- This year is painful just bc UM was so close...We have a very good class, but in a transition year with in-state rivals and a supposed inside road at AH, we could have knocked it out of the park and took over #1 in state for couple years...combine that with Kul's underwhelming DL haul, and it just leaves you thinking what could have been.

- Also, I don't think Patke is the answer...Need the South Florida ace I eluded too a couple times in other threads. Richt thought it was Rumph it isn't. Find the next T-Rob, next Eddie Gran, I like the Charlie Partridge talk. Enough of the Rumph/Banda/(Patke) types

- This staff doesn't reach...That's a good thing. But you can't not fill slots in back 2 back years. And you better navigate those grad transfer numbers effectively if you plan on "never" reaching.

-Some guys that I think should have offered or if we REPORTEDLY offered could have pursued more aggressively based on what we ended up with.

Dorian Gerald
Stanley Garner
Davoan Hawkins

All in all, more studs in a class than we've had in a long while.

Man Rumph tried but this whole American Heritage pipeline plan Richt had backfired. I'm not sure what's going on but it's a slap in Rumphs face.

Agree fully with majority of this. One thing I will say, it seemed like we had about 35 total targets and didn't reach which is great. At DB, especially, we got 5 and missed on 2 studs today and Jobe. Garner and the kid from Oxbridge (forgot his name) were nice recruits at CB but we didn't reach, should we have?

Hopefully this year, we are all in on DL and LB and have a few good backup plans. I think LB will be fine, DL is off to great start with Daxon and Brown, both monsters.

Pretty much agree with everything you said, good write up. The line about thinking "what could have been" definitely resonates with me.

I can live with only taking one "reach" at DB and living with our misses. We do have OK numbers there and some talent, and have to at least hit something next year out of Sang, Stephenson, M-AR, Elam, J. Davis...I'd be scouring the earth for d-linemen right now, though. We are so light there and even worse in '20.

Nice work. Yesterday wasn't all that fun to watch but overall we should be really excited about this class.

I hear you on the DL. If we can keep Brown at DT with Daxon and add Sorrells or some other big timer that is a nice haul. then Bogle, Cam Williams, and the African kid who plays with Daxon, that is a great haul at DE. There are other too of course, but 6 DL at the minimum and maybe even 8.

One would think after watching Georgia get torched in the secondary by Oklahoma and Bama in the second half, that there would be more questions than answers... I don't think they (Ga. Coaches) have the same reputation as Nick.. personally think Campbell made a huge mistake.. I personally think having a relationship with Rumph hurts, cause the parents only see a HS coach that brought their kids to a level but can he take them to the NFL.. Rumph needs MJ to be a success.. unfortunately Rumph doesn't get credit for turning Cobert into a draft pick and a good pro..

I'm not a big negative recruiting guy but if I was coaching Miami and knew the Campbells loved Mel Tucker I'd give them a quick but thorough breakdown of the terrible calls and execution on the part of Tucker in the NC, particularly the walk-off TD on 2nd and long. I could easily put together an extensive compilation of clinic tape from our Rumph-taught corners too.

I don't know if it was bags or what but the on-field sell for Miami vs. Georgia should be easy. I can't imagine the missed opportunities and F-ups by this staff assuming this was a battle that wasn't rigged. That being said I'd give Rumph a raise before I think about firing him. His on-field work will pay off in the long run regardless of his recruiting ability - "if you build it they will come".

Totally agree that Frierson is a safety prospect. Straight-linish athlete with a narrow base and unrefined technique at corner, but he has range and playmaking ability in deep coverage. Similar to Redwine but with more athletic upside.

You're on the right track with Hightower. Long strides, efficient movement and has that Moss skill where he doesn't track the ball until the last second so defenders can't react in time. He has all the intangibles for the position and deceptive athleticism. A+ WR class for me.

This was the eighth ranked class, an A class and a step forward but a missed opportunity to be an A+. It is what it is.

It is frustrating that we ignored players like Asante jr, Troutman, Nadab Joseph etc. in hopes that we would land Jobe and Campbell. I hope in the future we’ll recruit kids like Troutman and if we land the big fish too than that’s just a bonus.
