Perry played well, made some really nice runs to extend drives something he actually does quite often. The Deep passing game still isn't there, he can throw well down the field just doesn't have the continuity with the WR's to connect on a regular basis. But I like that we utilized the short intermediate pass game to open up the run game.
Killa Cam! Great game by Cam, he's a real nice North/South runner hits the whole with burst & goes. He's going to have a bright future in Miami, kid is great talent. IMO, Cam & Lingard need to be the top backs next year if Homer goes to the draft. I like Deejay a lot but I think he's better in the utility role as a RB/WR & not just solely as a RB.
JT4! That was one **** of a Punt Return! Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was the first PR TD we've had since Berrios 2016 vs FAMU. Bout **** time!
Really hate to see Brevin go down the way he did, hope it's nothing too serious. And I hope Mallroy is good to next week as well.
Still too many drops by this receiving Corp from Wiggins & Cager. They make plays every now & then but just not consistent enough, too many times the ball will hit these guys in the hands & they drop it. Langham had a nice catch in the Endzone though, but had a bad drop as well.
OL was not good, they did enough & made some solid blocks to spring Cam/Homer for some good runs, but they were wildly inconsistent against Va Tech's beat up DLine. Donaldson still gets beat too much on the interior & our Tackle play has been below average all year. They still give up way too many sacks.
Defense:
- Trajan Bandy 5tcks 1TFL, 3PD's
- Sheldrick Redwine 5tcks 1sack, 1TFL
- Gerald Willis 5tcks
- Mike Smith 5tcks
- Romeo Finley 5tcks 1TFL, 1PD
- Jon Garvin 5tcks
- Jaquan Johnson 4tcks, 1PD
- Zach McCloud 4tcks, 0.5sacks, 0.5TFL's
- Michael Jackson 4tcks, 0.5sacks, 0.5TFL's, 1PD
- Joesph Jackson 3tcks 1.5sacks, 2.5TFL's
- Derrick Smith 3tcks
- Amari Carter 2PD's
We finally were able to get pressure, when we can bring pressure getting sacks & forcing turnovers this Defense plays that much better. JJack showed up & played well. Shaq had a great game, like what I saw from the rest of LB Corp as well. Mike Smith having himself a nice Senior year.
Secondary played great, Bandy is a thoroughbred Pitbull, that kid is pure beast! Redwine, Quan, Rome Finley & Mike Jack were all good in coverage as well making a bunch of plays. The Defense's weakest link is Jhavonte Dean (yes I know he had a late INT) but there were a bunch of plays he got beat during the game. Hopefully, one of the 3 youngins behind him will be developed & ready to play by next year. Other than that everybody else played very well.
S/O to Amari Carter, I keep tellin yall man that boy will be a playmaker for us next year as the full time starter taking over for Red, same way Quan had his best season as a Junior, expect the same with the Hitman AC5, just saying don't sleep.
Overall, glad we finally got a W. I'm not crowing'em because they beat a bad Va Tech team but anytime we win in Blacksburg is a great win. I predicted we finished the season 6-6, still standing by that, but at least we're bowl eligible & can get the young guys some extra practices.
Side note, does anybody know our record with Mark Jones calling the game? It seems like we always win when he's commentating lol
