You're calling other fans unreasonable while simultaneously saying that hoping for an "overhaul of the defense" is a realistic possibility?

After four years of utter ineptitude, stubbornness, inflexibility, and reliance on a passive defensive scheme that clearly has no prayer of working here, you actually think for a single solitary moment that Golden won't just replace D'Onofrio with another stooge to run this same exact defense? This is Al Golden's defense after all, not just D'Onofrio's.

golden won't be gone. So what we need is an overhaul of the defense. That's INFINITELY more reasonable than thinking a guy is going to get fired after taking over for randy and having to deal with ncaa investigation which certainly affected recruiting. Like i said, it would have to be like a 5-7 debacle for them to consider firing golden, and I just don't see us dropping 4 of the next 5.

The point is that there's nothing reasonable about thinking Golden changing this defense is a realistic possibility. They continued to run this same scheme after having the 120th-ranked total defense in 2012 and 90th-ranked total defense in 2013, despite very soft schedules. If he wasn't willing to change it after two of the most embarrassing defensive campaigns in the history of the program, then he never will.

This is his defense and he still firmly believes in it based on what we're still seeing on the field as well as his public comments blasting players for failing to execute. The lack of adjustments against Nebraska and Georgia Tech should have been the final straw for even the staunchest Golden believer.

Let me start off by saying I am crushed. I knew what her answer would be when I asked her the question, but hearing it crushed my heart. I am so hurt to see the school I love fall this way and knowing we can't do anything.

So in short, I asked her how could we allow for the leadership of our football program to perform at such a mediocre level.

The response?

You guessed it: THE CLOUD

She said how this is the first year technically for this staff because the cloud hasn't let them recruit.

She said we are better than some teams and some teams wish they were as good us.

She said we weren't mediocre.

It's over guys. Unless our next President really cares for athletics, this is it. We are going down. No one cares here and it starts at the top.

I tried, not much we can do. I'm crushed. My heart actually hurts. I have loved this school for so long and so passionately that to hear and watch this hurts.

I had all the stats about our recruiting classes compared to other schools and hearing her say that to me killed anything in me to fight anymore.

Fly all the banners. This thing is over.

Him bombing this year, with so much promise we had at the beginning of this season, may cause his own un-doing. Al may, legitimately, not want to be here as well. I think he really thought things were going to be peaches and cream here b/c of what he did at Temple w/ limited resources, and it's been anything but that, and it's blowing up in his face. Donna can give public lip service, but I don't doubt for one minute that they are not looking at other options behind closed doors, not with the fan's public outburst, and national media scrutiny they are getting. They are getting more scrutiny now than they did w/ "the cloud" actually came in to fruition.

What is the unreasonable part?

When you don't consider how bad randy was and the effects of "the cloud", that's unreasonable.

The effects of the cloud? 9 scholarships over 3 years, 7 of which we'll be able to take this year as a result of nothing more than attrition (Dortch, Hope) and a few players getting kicked out for misconduct (Figs, Blue, Olsen). That's nothing.

As for negative recruiting, coaches from rival schools will be able to do that more effectively if Golden stays than they ever could by mentioning looming NCAA sanctions. All they have to do is point to the highly-ranked players who haven't been developed properly, the passive defensive scheme that doesn't appeal whatsoever to many local studs like Tim Irvin, Golden throwing his own players under the bus to defend his coaching methods, his record against decent or better opposition, and his inability to win a division as pathetic as the ACC Coastal.

USC is dealing with legitimate sanctions. We got shut out on NSD last year on all of our late uncommitted targets well after the NCAA ruling was announced. Golden failing to reel in Dixon, JC Jackson, Valentine, Ross, etc. and losing Powell/Gibbons had nothing to do with any cloud.

I don't either...however, in the board, I do have a sliver of faith based upon the position that F.A.G put the team in at the beginning of the season. Even Blake was caught off guard, and once again, lip service was given. There's a reason why Al continued to deflect from being questioned about the PSU job...he was geniunely ****ed he didn't get the gig and now he's forced to coach somewhere he didn't. Our team doesn't lack talent, our team lacks coaching. Al is not even trying at times. There's no fight in this dog and I think they can see that.
