was the day the Shapiro story broke as the first days of fall camp in August of 2011 broke. His face and body language said it all, he ran right into a haymaker he didn't see coming( like Pacquiao vs Marquez last December). This wasn't the job he signed up for. I was talking about this with DMoney earlier, just judging by his reaction, there's no way he knew about this. Because if he did, I don't think he takes the job

He dealt with the suspensions going into the Maryland game, the emotion he showed after the Vatech loss in Blacksburg, I'll never forget and then the other hit piece by Charles Robinson actually tried to implicate him and Michael Barrow. The negative recruiting, the cloud of uncertainty, all that stuff.

But look at where UM is now. They are in the top ten( whether that sticks, we'll soon find out) but this guy has been more solid than the Rock of Gibraltar. I dare say he's been as important as Howard Schnellenberger was in his era as the UM coach. And through this whole ordeal, he actually became more committed to this program.

Again, we are blessed to have this guy as our CEO. The day he leaves( and I believe it will happen someday, unfortunately) will be a sad day for me as a die-hard Canes fan. But I'll thank him for what he's done for this program.

But right now he's a fighter who no longer has a broken hand, he's free to throw two-fisted combinations. This is now the job he wanted. The worst is over. He will be a better coach for this and UM will be a better institution after having gone through this fiasco. They are a better team/program than they were three years ago, and three years from now, they'll be a better team than they are now. I can't wait to see this program led by this Jersey guy, who led Temple out of the abyss and was the right man at the right time( to a degree, which I don't think anyone us really understood in December of 2010) to lead UM moving forward.

Alfred James Golden, thanks for being the same guy, every day( as he'd say)

That Texas Tech AD did something right during his brief tenure. There was no better person to take this job than Golden, no one.

Golden was hit from the blindside with this situation, but is something that he handled really well. I don't see any other coach in the country doing what Golden was able to pull off.

Ive told you fa.ggots from day 1 and was laughed at. If Golden and staff blew town after the story broke..we would have lost any recruits in the pipeline and were in danger of losing this program for at least 10 to 15 years if you consider the chaos that would of occured ON TOP OF THE FUTURE NCAA SANCTIONS.

Do not ever forget what Goldens staying on board meant to this program.

I spoke with Tony Barnhart earlier this year and asked him about Al Golden. He had nothing but high praise for Al. Said he was an exemplary coach and man. Tony also said that, off the record, Al had no idea what was coming in regards to allegations and if he did, he would not have taken the job.

If Al would have known what was about to hit, I don't think anyone would have blamed him for not taking the job. Heck, I wouldn't have blamed anyone for not taking that hot pile of **** deal. But, he didn't blink an eye. That is when HIS train started full speed ahead!

****! This school, this fan base owe him more than any amount of money! He pulled this program back from the edge of the cliff, LITERALLY!

Love me some Golden!

**** it! Reps all around!

Would it be shameful to be happy that Shalala and company did not tell Golden about this during the interview process?

Yeah, absolutely, this too, says a lot about the man.

I think we all know **** well not to put a coach in such high regards until they produce. I was fooled. Almost all of us were
