My apologies to Mr. Homer

What a stupid and meaningless debate. Homer rips off a 56 yard run, makes dudes miss, made a great cut. All CIS has to say is he looks slower this year cause a guy with a 5 yard head start was able to grab him with 1 arm.

Just an observation, they looked good tho
I know you get it Vern. Every time a Dude gets chased down he’s put on too much weight. Every time he gets tackled one on one, he needs to put on weight.

Homer and Deejay were blowing through tacklers like they weren’t even there. So which would you prefer? Not everyone is Adrian Peterson. Homer may have housed it last year but how many other runs were after contact?

If being too heavy means seeing what we saw at the end of the game, then I take that.

One **** of a turnaround last few weeks. I was blinded by how awful Rosier was and his effect in making everything one dimensional

Buddy is looking electric again

Good lord. Now we've got posters who think that a fake public apology to a player (who will never read the apology) excuses all of the CIS-poster-bashing that people have been doing for weeks, as they raved about Deejay Dallas' "vision" or told us how something was "off" with Homer this year.

Make no mistake, I want all of our backs to succeed. But the point that I correctly and consistently made was that Homer's speed and ability to hit the perimeter or to cut back and leave defenders grasping was being ill-served by the "Rosier takes the snap and sticks out the ball to a running back going straight ahead between the tackles". We have to be honest, while it is exciting to see a quick-hitting play go up the middle for 10 or more yards, that play usually succeeds for more yardage because a LB is out of position or has been sucked into the wrong spot.

So to run the same play over and over and over again is just a setup for failure, and a refusal to take advantage of your speed superiority. Miami's running game succeeds with variety, sweeps, counter plays, traps and draws, and other schemes that give our runners the chance to get up to speed without having to slam into a DL or get slowed down by a DL who has sliced into the backfield.

Homer's production last year, and the fact that he hasn't regressed at all (or forgotten how to be a good running back) are why he should be the starter and/or used IN TANDEM with Deejay Dallas. Deejay is also great, but that doesn't equate to one of those idiotic CIS "play Deejay, bench Homer" types of arguments.

I'm glad to see the extra dimension that Perry brings. As just a tiny example, watch how Perry sells the play on Homer's 56 yard run. Perry takes an exaggerated step out wide, which helps to sell the defensive line on "oh, Homer is going to go wide to the left". The OL blocks left, the DL flows left, and the entire right side of the field was open for the cut back. This play just develops fundamentally different from Rosier, standing like a statute, as he holds the ball to one side or the other for Homer to run straight ahead into the DL.

.

That run was all Homer both St. Louis and Mahoney were beat on the play. Mahoney actually gets away with a choke hold on his man.

On the topics of RB why does Richt continue to pound DJ and Homer when we were up by 30+ points? Seems like an unnecessary risk when you have Lingawd, Burns, Gray, and Davis that are standing there.

maybe someone else said it. I was actually impressed with his speedy he out ran the angle on that dB. If he just would have had the ball in his outside hand that’s a td. The leverage the tackler has was his arm and ball. If he could’ve used his arm to push that tacklers arms away he’d have scored. That was a major league cut.

I thought he was dancing too much early inthe season. They were using him on those sweeps and it’s just not him. He’s a one cut, turn your shoulders upfield kind of back. I wonder if the coaches didn’t point it out to him. He’s been real good the last two games.

Homer did not look as fast as he did on the long Vtech run last year compared to last night. It has nothing to do with weight or S&C though. It's because of how he's carrying the ball. He couldn't hit the after burners protecting the ball that high. That being said, he made the right decision. He made sure he didn't fumble it out of the endzone. I think he'd have loosened up if nobody had the angle.

What i'd like to see is some more aggressiveness from Dallas to finish his runs. I'm okay with running out of bounds when you're up big. Against FSU he needs put his shoulders down to get the extra 2-3 yards. You never know when you'll break one. Especially with how poorly FSU tackles. Dallas has the size now where he should be punishing people, not running out of bounds like a WR.

Interesting point about Deejay

On one hand I don’t think you’ll find many that are more aggressive than he is running the ball.

However a few times lately he has made some odd choices.

I’m wondering if Brown has been in his ear? Like don’t take unnecessary hits.

He might be trying to adjust his thinking and it’s awkward sometimes.

I hear you but Brown is hurting the team if he's telling him that. That would make sense last season with no depth, but there's plenty right now. It makes no sense to put on 20lbs if you're going to run out of bounds.

This right here. During the run I was thinking why hasn't he switched the ball to the other arm.

Deejay and Travis have gained weight more muscle but their not as fast as they were last year

I been thinking the same thing. If we pound the rock is a good change. With Perry able to throw over the whole field the defenses will not be able to load the box all game and those bigger bodies will punish them. We seem a little better in red zone so getting caught at the 10 should not prove too costly.

Ok, so not unheard of that he'll fumble, but I'm not getting how it's problematic at this point. Sure it's a thing you want to stop even if it hasn't caused harm yet, but Homer's not a "fumbler". He isn't a guy who scares you every time he carries the ball.

How many times has DJ fumbled?

Homer is a very good back. He could be great if he was coached to keep the ball tucked in his outside arm, so that he could use his inside hand as a stiff-arm,
