One **** of a turnaround last few weeks. I was blinded by how awful Rosier was and his effect in making everything one dimensional
Buddy is looking electric again
Good lord. Now we've got posters who think that a fake public apology to a player (who will never read the apology) excuses all of the CIS-poster-bashing that people have been doing for weeks, as they raved about Deejay Dallas' "vision" or told us how something was "off" with Homer this year.
Make no mistake, I want all of our backs to succeed. But the point that I correctly and consistently made was that Homer's speed and ability to hit the perimeter or to cut back and leave defenders grasping was being ill-served by the "Rosier takes the snap and sticks out the ball to a running back going straight ahead between the tackles". We have to be honest, while it is exciting to see a quick-hitting play go up the middle for 10 or more yards, that play usually succeeds for more yardage because a LB is out of position or has been sucked into the wrong spot.
So to run the same play over and over and over again is just a setup for failure, and a refusal to take advantage of your speed superiority. Miami's running game succeeds with variety, sweeps, counter plays, traps and draws, and other schemes that give our runners the chance to get up to speed without having to slam into a DL or get slowed down by a DL who has sliced into the backfield.
Homer's production last year, and the fact that he hasn't regressed at all (or forgotten how to be a good running back) are why he should be the starter and/or used IN TANDEM with Deejay Dallas. Deejay is also great, but that doesn't equate to one of those idiotic CIS "play Deejay, bench Homer" types of arguments.
I'm glad to see the extra dimension that Perry brings. As just a tiny example, watch how Perry sells the play on Homer's 56 yard run. Perry takes an exaggerated step out wide, which helps to sell the defensive line on "oh, Homer is going to go wide to the left". The OL blocks left, the DL flows left, and the entire right side of the field was open for the cut back. This play just develops fundamentally different from Rosier, standing like a statute, as he holds the ball to one side or the other for Homer to run straight ahead into the DL.
