Yes Mullen is
cant believe think he is a good coach
Mullen can coach, but the QB thing bothers me. He likes power-running QBs. That's not my thing for two reasons: 1) They are rare; and 2) they usually aren't elite passers.
This is a school of pocket quarterbacks and playmaking pass-catchers.
Honest question, why are you so attached to the past?
Miami used to be the innovative program, now we are stuck in the past.
Ohio St used to be 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
UF used to throw it all over the yard under Spurrier. Then Urban showed up.
Pocket-passers are the most proven way to win in football. The best football player in the world today runs a 5.4. He wins with accurate pocket passing.
I'm not against mobile quarterbacks, but since this is Miami, I'm most concerned with getting the ball to my talented receivers. Mullen's system is overly dependent on power runs from the QB position. It is rare to find players who can run like a fullback and throw the ball accurately. We don't have anyone like that on the roster, and it will probably be a few years before we have a player like that starting at QB.
Fair enough but this isn't the NFL.
Mullen is a great offensive mind, you don't think he will fit his talent to the system? He won a NC with Chris Leak at QB.
As far as getting the ball to playmaking WRs. He has 2 at MSU, Ross and Wilson, and they have 136 catches and 1750 yards this year.

Chris Leak got a lot worse going from Fedora to Mullen. He improved as a senior, but he still wasn't great and Tebow was a major part of the game-plan.
Prescott is a Mullen-type QB but it took five years to find him. And they still aren't a great team.
He is doing a ridiculously good job there.

I think he's a good coach. It's the fit I'm worried about.
He won't get four years to implement his system here. People want success now.

He would have Miami's offense humming with Kaaya.
If he's the coach, hopefully we land a Tebow-type for 2017.

Maybe he pulls the next Chad Kelly from the JUCO ranks. Maybe someone like Malik Zaire transfers. Maybe he finds a grad transfer like Vernon Adams.
I'm not saying that's what would happen, but there are options.

Perhaps. But you have an established, first-round projected QB through 2017. It will be hard to bench him.
And you still need to fix a broken defense. Do you trust Manny Diaz to get it done?
I don't hate it because he's a good coach and he wants the job, but the timing and fit aren't great.

D$, if you had to guess right now, who gets the job?
I think he could adapt the offense to fit his talent. He's never really had the quality of talent at the rb position we have now. I think he realizes that Brad is a stud and he could build a short term offense around him. I know that's a lot of hopes and promises, but he's always been a sharp offensive mind. I think he'd be worth the shot. He's made Miss St. into a top 25 team the past three seasons. All while playing in the SEC west. Not the feeble ACC Coastal. He's a proven upgrade over our last two coaches.
Where would Miami have been under Golden or Shannon in the same division? Its easy to say he hasn't done anything, but the division he coaches in has won or played in 5 of last 6 title games. And two teams made the title game in 2012 from their division. Compared to Miami's schedule? I mean our toughest streches are against FSU, Va Tech and possibly GA Tech. I think he'd be a great hire. The defense and the staff could be good. His defenses have never been dominant, but he hasn't the athletes Miami has down here. It's hard to argue how an offensive coach would fix a defense, as long as he hires a competent DC, it'll work out. Look at UNC. I just think saying his best year came in down year for the division in college football holds no merit.I think he could adapt the offense to fit his talent. hes finished better than 4th place once?
lets not act like he has them rolling
what is he going to do about defense
what kind of staff?
