Mt Rushmore of Canes Safeties

Slightly OT but this whole concept of "The Mt. Rushmore of...."- did Marc Hochman actually come up with that back when he was on locally with Fat Face Pell Grant Walrus? I really don't remember anyone having done it before but I always stipulate that my memory has been sacrificed to years of hard drugs and untreated STDs.

he definitely invented a great snarky version of Mt Rushmore that preceded the PMT guys. Always loved how Hock would have a curveball on his list...

At no point was ST better than Reed, I’m not going to bash ST to make my point but I’ll just say he blew coverages quite a bit because he depended on his god given ability. Hence why he struggled early in his nfl career, that’s even mentioned in the documentary.

I know some of you get size and athletic ability confused with actual play. Even Belichik thinks he’s the goat. ST was a freak of nature as a safety but was NEVER a better player. At no point , college or pro.

ST was a great college player his last year and was on the way to being a great pro , he’d figured it out when he had passed.

Btw, You do know who the starting safeties were Reeds last year right?
This is a terrible hot take. Sean Taylor was an all pro at the age of 23. It took ed reed until age of 25 to be one.

It’s sad how many folks around these parts fail to appreciate just how great Taylor was.

Nothing I said is false or a “ hot take “.

Reed is the best safety I’ve ever seen in my 41 years and there’s no second place. Dude literally was perfection , rarely made mistakes while always making huge plays

how about if the conversation was strictly about college production?

Torretta out/ Walsh in IMO.

If we're weighing Natty's, keep Dorsey in.
Hey, you don't have to sell me on Steve. He is my favorite Cane QB. Take out the ND cheating and he goes out perfect with back to back NCs. Still GT has to be in because of the hardware both personal and the NC. Bernie got the whole thing to the promised land first and against the reigning champ. Kelly started the fire and was probably the best of them all, but Craig won NC with new HC. Kenny won with terrible HC. How do we leave Vinny out - he was leader of the bad boys. We just need a bigger mountain.

QB: Kelly / Kosar / Torretta / Dorsey

RB: Anderson / McGuire / James / McGahee

WR: E. Brown / Irving / Wayne / Johnson

TE: Smith / Franks / Shockey / Winslow
Excellen lists. Not many would have remembered how great Smith was. Most would forget OJ's greatness and the damage Steve did in the one back -especially against noles. Can't find a reason to leave off any of those QBs but hard to leave off those other two NC QBs. Vinny is kind of in Jim's situation great but came up short, great NFL careers but story is the same. Vinny got the trophy and was number one pick in draft but Jim was probably the best Cane QB ever.

The safeties leave us with the Teddy Roosevelt thing -- I mean he was nothing compared to the other three. Whoever we pick as the forth wold be Teddy.

QBs we have am embarrassing abundance that just does not fit on one mountain. We need three pyramids thing. One with out two Heisman winners, another with the 4 remaining NC winners and then one a little taller in the middle for Kelly. Or if you like maybe Jim and Vinny on one for great but no title and put Geno on the big one since he has it all. Lots of people don't see him as best but he did it all so it is justified for a program where winning everything is the only acceptable result.
