Mostly OT: Believe it or not, the OC situation could have been worse (Iowa)

I know this is (still) not directly (or even tangentially) Miami related, but I am just fascinated by the entire **** show at OC for Iowa...

Iowa’s offensive futility hit a new low on Saturday night in State College.
In a 31-0 loss to Penn State, Iowa could muster only 76 yards of offense. Along the way, the Hawkeyes picked up only four first downs and turned the ball over four times.
...
Iowa’s offensive ineptitude has become a running joke in the sport. And that was only amplified by the contract stipulations given to offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz, the son of longtime Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, after last season. Iowa has to average 25 points per game and win at least seven games. Under the terms of the amended contract, Brian Ferentz’s employment would end June 30, 2024, if the Iowa offense does not meet those goals.
Through four games, Iowa ranks No. 131 in the country in total offense. Only Eastern Michigan and Sam Houston State are averaging fewer yards per game than Iowa. At 21.3 points per game, Ferentz is already behind his needed 25 points per game pace. And that’s after playing just one Big Ten game.
Even after upgrading its talent this offseason via the transfer portal, Iowa could muster only 24 points against Utah State and then 20 against rival Iowa State.

I'm with you as far as being fascinated by it. So I was reading about it yesterday.

Did you know that the 25 ppg target includes points scored by their defense and special teams? Iowa as a team has to reach 25 ppg, not just the offense.

Its one of the most blatant examples of nepotism I've ever seen.

Honestly impressive to be that bad on offense. You could run iso, counter, OZ, IZ and still do better than 76 yards

Iowa has no skill players on top of a game manager QB and a lousy OL. He's effectively working with our offense from last year , but Brian Ferentz is also garbage. Plus their top 2 backs and best tight end were out for the game (tight ends are only passing game they've had this year with Lachey and All). How Phil Parker can take managing the defense year after year is beyond me. Defense isn't as elite as last year without Campbell and Van Ness. Loss of Noah Shannon to gambling also hurt their D.

Penn state held the ball all game. I think the time of possession was like 48 minutes for Penn state. Play differential was like 100 for Penn state to 30 for Iowa

Yep - included that in my original post. Just insanity, especially since their D last year actually scored a lot of points.

I would say it's a bit of chicken or egg, but but considering he has been terrible for several years now no matter what he has/hasn't had, why would any offensive players want to go to Iowa?

Well the Iowa D is actually good. Especially when you consider that their O is not doing them any favors.
Still, Iowa only had the ball for 14:33. They must have a **** of an S&C program for the defense to not get worn out.
