I know Matthew was a top 10 player nationally last year just wondering what you guys think.
I believe this is a toss-up. They both have potential thru the roof. I would say they both have the potential to be the best in the nation at their respective positions. Though, as far as that position's value to a program goes, I'd say Matt Thomas's role could provide a notch more value...just b/c when he fills out he could play in a multitude of roles (pass rusher, run stuffer, and coverage responsibilities).
We will see how they both end up.
+ 1 simply on a position/roles perspective it's matt thomas but only justI believe this is a toss-up. They both have potential thru the roof. It's really **** close, but the way the game is changing makes me keep Matthew as a slight leader for now. Some of the posts already made in this thread explain why: TEs becoming dominant (=need for guys like MT), MT has a more varied skill set (for now, and still needs to develop the pass rush ability), and the fact that it's just unusual for a guy of MT's size/speed to be able to naturally cover the way he did as an 18 year old.
One thing that complicates this is the fact that Chad is asked to play DT for his HS team. You're not seeing the very best of him there, but it's actually preparing him to be a quick fit in the "Chickillo" role. Thomas is on the path to being a more explosive, pass-rushing version of Chickillo. That's incredibly valuable to the style of defense we play and is incredibly valuable to what many NFL teams do.
Good thread.

I like this post...I think my JPP comparison is off. Chad Thomas' ceiling is actually JJ Watt in this scheme. Plus it enable the cross-racial comparison which is always a bonus.
