More potential Chad or Matthew Thomas?

Chad and its not close.

Chad will put on 30 or more pounds in college. With his motor he could be unstoppable

i honestly think matt thomas.. he is incredibly fast and has a good frame, once he is in the weight room and fills out he will be a really good player

I believe this is a toss-up. They both have potential thru the roof. I would say they both have the potential to be the best in the nation at their respective positions. Though, as far as that position's value to a program goes, I'd say Matt Thomas's role could provide a notch more value...just b/c when he fills out he could play in a multitude of roles (pass rusher, run stuffer, and coverage responsibilities).

We will see how they both end up.

Don't really see Matthew Thomas as much of a run stuffer, but his cover skills are elite. He has the athleticism to provide coverage for some of these freak TE's that are starting to play the position. Chad Thomas seems to do everything at his position though, elite strength and pass rusher. He could be the most complete DE we've had here. If Matt had stayed home, this D would be unstoppable for 2 - 3 years.

+ 1 simply on a position/roles perspective it's matt thomas but only just

Matt can play linebacker and pass rush very well in the right system and can be a beast in coverage on a tight end. Chad on the other hand can be a 4 down player and a stud as a run stopper and pass rusher that every team would need. Its close but ill take Chad

I mean it depends because he's more versatile but im not sure if he's got more potential. Ok, its a little ot but it's almost like aking who has more potential Stacy or Griffin

Matt Thomas - Dion Jordan

Chad Thomas - JPP

Those are the ceilings, so I guess it depends on what you value most.

Matt brings a skillset that is incredibly valuable, especially when combating the spread offense. Chad brings a skill set that will never go out of style...he flat out gets after the QB. I don't know if you can say one has more potential than the other, but I think that Chad is the safer bet to max out his skill set.

And let's not be children....Matt was and is an elite prospect, and that doesn't change because he made a terrible life decision.

Matthew Thomas by a little bit because he has higher upside as a pass rusher. Not a slight against Chad, just has to do with Matthew's upside.

both will probably be beast so I'll give the edge to CT as I think a elite DE is more valuable than an elite LB and if we talking about our team specifically then it tilts it even more to CT b/c Dline is a bigger need than LB imo

/think about AQM, CT, Mccord, and Jackson coming after the QB on passing downs, whew

I agree with the masses here both kids have a ton of potential and offer different skillsets. I haven't seen Matthew get a lot of burn this year on FSU even in some of the blowouts which is surprising. I've only seen him on kickoff coverage

It's really **** close, but the way the game is changing makes me keep Matthew as a slight leader for now. Some of the posts already made in this thread explain why: TEs becoming dominant (=need for guys like MT), MT has a more varied skill set (for now, and still needs to develop the pass rush ability), and the fact that it's just unusual for a guy of MT's size/speed to be able to naturally cover the way he did as an 18 year old.

One thing that complicates this is the fact that Chad is asked to play DT for his HS team. You're not seeing the very best of him there, but it's actually preparing him to be a quick fit in the "Chickillo" role. Thomas is on the path to being a more explosive, pass-rushing version of Chickillo. That's incredibly valuable to the style of defense we play and is incredibly valuable to what many NFL teams do.

Good thread.

I'll say Chad, because he came to the school where NFL legends are made. FSU last elite player was who? Deion or Derrick Brooks lol #NFLU

I've been saying for over a year now (sorry for being THAT guy) that when all was said and done Chad would be at the same level of Matthew leaving high school.

I caught a lot of **** for saying so, especially before the other guy spurned us which completely bastardizes this discussion for many people.

They are both elite and Chad is right on schedule.

I like this post...I think my JPP comparison is off. Chad Thomas' ceiling is actually JJ Watt in this scheme. Plus it enable the cross-racial comparison which is always a bonus.

I'd say MT for the reason stated above. I think MT has the versatility to play Sam, mike, or will. If he hits the weights and ends up in the 240 range, he could be special.

CT can also be a game changer, no doubt, but MTs versatility puts him over the edge.
