Moorhead to Akron

Yost was fired from Texas Tech. He's not a good coordinator.

No need to give Mirabal an additional title either since he's a lock to come here. Use that title and a raise to lure an elite RB coach.

Eric Hickson doesn’t do a bad job in recruiting. He’s gotten some studs since he’s been here. Chaney, rooster, and Thad were top in south Florida.

One would hope not but stranger things have happened.

That's what I meant by build upon it. We have some studs in the RB room, but we can be a pass-first offense and still establish an effective ground game defenses need to plan for. As well as our OL did in pass protection with TVD I'm not sold on them being road-graders for Don, Rooster, Thad & Cody. I'd like to see the next OC take fix that.
Yeah skip over any video of short yard situations with Lash! His play calling was really Jekyll and Hyde and I was underwhelmed. Hopefully the next OC is a big upgrade and can take advantage of Van Dymes and crew

He needs a running qb though. That is the concern with Mullen.
Trask can barely move and had probably a top 10 QB season in the history of CFB in 2020 with Mullen.

He typically looks for a QB that can run his QB power staple - that's an Urban Meyer thing which is why Mullen and Herman both feature that. But if you convince them that you want to be a pass 1st team with Air raid concepts to go along with their blocking scheme and running game.. lethal.

didn't Herman snitch on his boys? I'm all for slimeball tendencies but I don't want no chatty patty.

Yeah with blue chips all over the OL. Not really a comparison
That's why you have Mario and Mirabal to help on the OL side. But 100% it obviously won't be the same type of success.

Mostly saying, if Mario is the pick one of the concerns becomes who he picks as an OC. I would worry he goes too conservative with his offense and wants to rely on ground game too much. But Herman could be a nice mix of strong run game with good QB play.

If it's someone like Lane then you obviously don't need Herman.

If we have all this cash to throw around - let’s get greedy and give Kiffin Assistant Head Coach title and make him the OC under Mario. LOL.

We need an OC who will recognize the blueprint Lashlee left and build upon it. Not saying we need to keep the same scheme but we should be throwing the ball 30-40 times a game or more if we can't get the run game established. Keep bro-style out of my face. Stretch the field, make it rain dimes.
I think it's more we need an OC who can keep maximizing TVD's talent to throw the ball..... I mean when Lashlee was playing King we looked like crap... Not trying to throw shade at Lashlee but it was very evident the O was worlds different with TVD under center....

Slightly OT and unlikely. If he gets Dorsey, next year he can make TVD Dorsey with a stronger arm and the following year he makes Garcia into Josh Allen

Thinking the same!
I think the big difference is coordinators jump ship all the time to be head coaches. If he left Oregon to be OC at Akron, BIG red flag. But it is just like Lash leaking for SMU. Oregon fans likely see Miami as a step down for a HC, can't complain when a coordinator gets a HC gig though, thats the goal of essentially most coordinators.

Fair enough.
But I think his firing has more to do with fit or maybe running someone else scheme. I think he's a **** good coordinator. You don't go from bring a hot name to suck all in just one year.
I don't think he was a hot name to anyone else but this board - which is why he was tied to Matt Wells from Utah State to Texas Tech and never really had another landing spot. His knock is he doesn't recruit and he has fielder terrible running teams.

He could be an option as a QB coach/pass game coordinator if our OC doesn't coach QBs for whatever reason. I think he's more wanting to stay and looking in the mid-west/west coast area for a gig.

Trask only played because Feleipe got hurt. Urban took forever to adapt, Mullen never really did.

Writing is on the wall, Mario gone. Ha

maybe, but given how Oregon operates Moorhead would have been considered next in line for HC. So him leaving can mean either Mario is gone and he would not have been considered as his replacement or that Mario has not indicated he is leaving so Moorhead is jumping at a HC opportunity elsewhere.

Fair enough. Didn't know much about his recruiting.

Tom Herman would be the dream OC hire for us. Spread offense w/ a power run game would be Mario's dream. Ohio State rushing attack under Herman was absolutely insane with Hyde + Braxton and Zeke + JT.

Mario + Herman would be an exciting duo. Lashlee just got the HC job at one of the strongest G5 programs. Make Herman one of the highest paid OC's, pair him with TVD, and he likely sets himself up for a decent P5 HC role next season.
Nailed it. The absolute perfect spot for Herman if he wants to/has to return to college as an OC.

You get TVD (and a theoretically loaded QB room) + Rooster & Cheney AND you get most if not all of the credit for the offensive success just based on Cristobal not being known as more than a CEO type on offense and supervisor of the trenches.

Like you said, look at Lashlee. If Herman killed it here then he'd soon have his choice of quality P5 jobs.

Interesting how this was able to be leaked but Mario to Miami isn’t yet. Not that waiting is a bad thing - we don’t need to get into this argument again - but wonder how the players feel.
If we had an AD in place, I'd expect an announcement Saturday - Monday since Oregon plays Friday night. Because we don't even have an AD, who knows where things even stand with him?

The only thing I can think of that would rock college football, is that Highsmith and/or Torretta are announced with Mario on the same day as a homecoming hit parade. Anything less than that is just a debacle because you should have an AD in place before you hire a HC. Without an AD we are behind the 8 ball in the coaching search and could be left with scraps or another year of Manny.
