Apparently, he thinks Pete is better situated to determine which players are Miami caliber than our coaching staff is.
Pete is better situated than someone who has never seen these guys play and automatically defers to the coaches.
Of course the coaches are more qualified to evaluate players. This is their profession. But that doesn't mean they're always right. The great thing about increased recruiting coverage and HUDL videos is that fans now have more information to form their own opinions. The boards disagreed with Coker for passing on Santonio Holmes and they killed Shannon for passing on guys like Jayron Hosely and Ryan Shazier. Turns out they were right.
Golden isn't Shannon or Coker, but he's had misses like everyone else. And saying that the "coaching staff knows better" ignores the fact that a coaching staff is not always unanimous on a player.
The point of this board is to give you guys the information to form your own opinions, and the forum to express those opinions.
I have a pretty good idea of how message boards operate and their purpose. The dude asked some kid if a recruit that we took a commitment from is "Miami caliber". I think it's an absurd question to ask of a guy who is probably 19 years old and has zero experience building a football roster. Ask him if looked big or what his numbers are or what he said to him. I just get a chuckle when football fans feel the need to ax another football fan to tell him if a guy is a good player.
I agree with you that there is plenty of information out there available for fans to look at and that The Don is far from infallible. But if I had to put my money on The Don or on Pete Aziz when it comes to selecting football players to attend UM I'm **** sure going with The Don. Digius has probably been watching football longer than Pete has. He should form his own opinion.
