Misconceptions about Wake

It's easy to separate the emotional reactions from genuine criticism.

Wake is a solid, well-coached football team with a veteran QB. They were 11-4 in their 15 games under this coach.

We also struggled in the interior, made some questionable calls and missed a ton of tackles.

All of these things can be true without whining about "slurpers," "mopes" and "propaganda."

And Miami had them 31-7 midway through the 3rd. The injuries absolutely derailed this team. If we're healthy we're all on here celebrating how awesome we are.

I think the answers are there for our flaws but this is where the coaching staff earns their paychecks. Unlike most, I actually came out of last night feeling better. The defense showed something I was worried they didn't have. The DL showed signs of life.

Miami was literally applying belt to *** in the first half and then got completely outcoached by Wake Forest in the second half

For Miami to make it to Vegas this simply cannot happen for the remainder of the schedule because if we get overwhelmingly outcoached again and the opposing team has better talent to go along with it then these games might end with a loss

So I guess to summarize, we did more to almost lose the game then Wake Forest to win it

Maybe we need to worry about making it to Charlotte first. Even better, make it to November with chance to make it to Charlotte.

Dude it was Gio freakin Lopez. Not Fernando Mendoza.

But Bro, we've got a 60 million dollar payroll.

Listen, that second half was a god**** abomination and I never want to watch it again. But I think that some of you may be under the impression that Wake Forest is a bad team and they most certainly are not. 9-4 last season with wins over SMU, Virginia, and a 1-point OT loss to GT in their HC's first year. ****ert has them going in the right direction and his staff made several solid adjustments throughout the game.

Are they world beaters? Of course not, but this was a conference road game missing 3 of our best corners and losing several other critical starters along the way. No team in football beats everyone on their schedule by 40 except the truly historic teams. These games happen, and although the second half play-calling and tackling were absolutely dog****, this film will provide some great "teaching tape" and remind our boys that they aren't unbeatable. We survived what will hopefully be our worst half of football this season. Now it's time to heal up and move onto the next one.
Bro I guess Purdue is good as well. This is one serious cope. It was a complete and total **** show in the second half. The 4th quarter was the single worst offensive performance in the history of Miami football. If Mario was smart he would suspend Dawson for two games.

Guarantee you he didn’t even watch the Purdue game. The only reason these idiots are saying Wake is good is based on last year.

I guess we are a 13 win team too based on that sound logic.

Well, based on that theory, Wake should have showed up in the first half.... all BS explanations for another second half wtf coaching masterclass from Dawson and Mario...
We saw it enough last season... if you put aside the playoffs...
No their big time gameplan started in the second half.

Very true but that 2nd half playcalling was absolutely brutal beyond words.
Agreed, but as we know from last season after the SMU game, coaches can change and evolve their game. Leadership from players/coaches moved the needle for us in the playoffs, and that factor is equally important as reps and player development in this season’s equation.IMHO🙌🏽

We had key players injured and dinged in the 2nd half and the coaches ran the plays accordingly. Marioball raised its ugly head..no trust..our line play is a step down. We are all repeating ourselves

Bingo. I guess Wake is only a 9 win team in one half.

Yeah Wake is mid as f. Wake did almost the exact same thing against purdues d as they did ours. The score was skewed bec of OT.

OP's points are correct.

My big problem though is how Miami looked. Five consecutive 3 and outs. Missed FG. That kind of sequence can't happen. It's the apparent cluelessness and panic that seems to have gripped the entire offensive personnel.

Same. That student section was the biggest conglomeration of daddy’s money trust fund babies I’ve ever seen in my **** life. We had food and beer cans thrown at us, racial slurs, all types of slurs for that matter, I mean I don’t give a **** what they call me, I just laugh and point to the scoreboard, but throwing food and beer cans almost got them hurt. If I hadn’t talked one guy out of it, he was going to rip one of their heads off and **** down their neck. Thankfully I got him to cool off and realize it’s not worth catching charges over. It wasn’t just the guys either. The girls were just as bad or worse. They’re all “you can hit me, but my ultra-rich Wake alum daddy will sue” types. Rest of the fanbase was good, in my experience. Their students are pricks of the highest order.
Will always be that way playing old money schools. Wake is one of many that will still
act that way towards Miami 50 years from now.

Replace whom?
Our best two RBs and an elite QB in the middle of the game?
Mallory looked pretty good to me . If your second string qb can’t make some throws maybe we should get one who can . We def should have replaces Lofton . All that talent at wr yeah we bring im a packiderm on 3rd and 8 and toss a fade to him . We need more plays with tes who get vertical in the middle of the field like we use to have. Use your talent it’s not that hard . Not a chance if they ran upshaw , spafford ,Wingo and Wilson someone wouldn’t be open . Didn’t say Tony because he was hurt . Stop the **** screen , run screen bs

I don't want to hear about which players were missing from the gsme. Most were out before the gsme started. The the same defense thst held Wake to 7 points played in the 2nd half where they gave up 250+ yards.

For the offense, we lost Fletcher and Brown plus Toney for a lot of the 2nd half.

My take is that if 1-2 missing players made that much of a difference from the 1st half to the 2nd half, then we are in trouble. The OL, QB, and WRs (except Toney) were all available. So, there's no excuse for the lack of a 2nd half passing game.

Mario has a lot of work to do to get this team where we thought it should be preseason. I really don't know what to think. Wake is a good team, not a great team. I was disappointed with our trenches. Our DL is in much better shape than our OL, but I thought our DL would be elite and they don't look the part.

Or maybe logic can accommodate possibility that Wake returns many players and coaches from what was a good (not great) 2025 team and perhaps UM is not as good as last year's team, which is understandable given loss of players from last season and injuries this season?
If you want to dismiss logic of judging a team in September based on previous season, maybe we should afford same luxury for Purdue until they're 1-2 games into the Big10 conference?
