Misconceptions about Wake

Durham is somewhat the same on a larger scale with a more booming business industry. But you can at least find some decent hotels. Winston isn’t big enough to escape the ****

Wish I had asked you beforehand. We were like wtf is going on here. I’m born and raised in Miami and manage daily nastiness as part of my life. When it’s unexpected, or in this case opposite of expectations, i guess it hits different. Couldn’t wait to bounce out.

Same. That student section was the biggest conglomeration of daddy’s money trust fund babies I’ve ever seen in my **** life. We had food and beer cans thrown at us, racial slurs, all types of slurs for that matter, I mean I don’t give a **** what they call me, I just laugh and point to the scoreboard, but throwing food and beer cans almost got them hurt. If I hadn’t talked one guy out of it, he was going to rip one of their heads off and **** down their neck. Thankfully I got him to cool off and realize it’s not worth catching charges over. It wasn’t just the guys either. The girls were just as bad or worse. They’re all “you can hit me, but my ultra-rich Wake alum daddy will sue” types. Rest of the fanbase was good, in my experience. Their students are pricks of the highest order.
 
There is no misconception that the turf on that field was complete ****. There is no misconception that we need different options at G and LB. There is no misconception that the injuries are becoming seriously concerning.

I’m very interested to see the response of this second half….it was looking like another complete beatdown then the wheels fell off. Wake up call…..or something else?

No not magically but maybe they will improve by sticking to it and not quitting. Maybe they begin to develop as the season continues because live reps are the best teachers. Maybe they they get better the old fashioned way. With hard work, taking the coaching and consistency.

Or maybe Mirabal needs to keep shuffling. I don't have the answer.

Are they world beaters? Of course not, but this was a conference road game missing 3 of our best corners and losing several other critical starters along the way. No team in football beats everyone on their schedule by 40 except the truly historic teams. These games happen, and although the second half play-calling and tackling were absolutely dog****, this film will provide some great "teaching tape" and remind our boys that they aren't unbeatable. We survived what will hopefully be our worst half of football this season. Now it's time to heal up and move onto the next one.

While I understand and slightly agree with your take, the reason I’m not totally with it is the first 35 minutes of the game. We absolutely throttled them up until the last TD we scored, then it was like the team said Fvcc it and quit executing. I don’t want to downplay the injuries, but I will say we played those first 35 minutes without Xavier, OJ and Jaboree the same as we played the last 25 without them.
 
It's easy to separate the emotional reactions from genuine criticism.

Wake is a solid, well-coached football team with a veteran QB. They were 11-4 in their 15 games under this coach.

We also struggled in the interior, made some questionable calls and missed a ton of tackles.

All of these things can be true without whining about "slurpers," "mopes" and "propaganda."

I owe you an apology. Unless things drastically change and soon, you were right on the money about Chase Smith. Smith and Toure are a major liability in the passing game and when Thornton is not blitzing, he just exacerbates the problem. I saw this coming with Thornton and TBH was never a huge fan of the signing. People were saying that he would be Keionte Scott part 2 but I never bought it. He has always been a major liability in pass coverage and that likely isn't changing. Hetherman needs to give the primary Nickel duty to someone else and just use Thornton as a blitzer. Portis needs playing time.

Very true but that 2nd half playcalling was absolutely brutal beyond words.

Don Bailey alluded to this, nicely on the pregame show. He mentioned their age, returning older mature players, their physicality and propensity for late hits and cheap shots, and the ACC refs allowing some it, unlike SEC refs who call it at the drop of a hat. I would say they were chippy and trying to bait us. Not excuses, just my observations.

Mali, Fletcher and (maybe) Mensah were hurt during game. You don't think this had an impact on the playcalling?

Yeah they did make adjustments and we barely were able to function- or counter them…. d line finally showed signs of life late better than never but that 2nd half was a dinoster fire and I’m facing facts— we aren’t close to ready for prime time we may make the CFP but I don’t see us going far

Miami was literally applying belt to *** in the first half and then got completely outcoached by Wake Forest in the second half


For Miami to make it to Vegas this simply cannot happen for the remainder of the schedule because if we get overwhelmingly outcoached again and the opposing team has better talent to go along with it then these games might end with a loss


So I guess to summarize, we did more to almost lose the game then Wake Forest to win it
