Minor King Update

He handicapped the offense a bit. Look how it opened up with Perry. He’s an athlete who plays qb. He doesn’t have a great fee for position.
He didn’t handicap the offense, lashlee did. Reason being he tried to get king involved in the running game too much. King is a athletic qb but most of the damage he did on the ground at houston was off of broken plays and nobody being open. Perry isn’t the threat that king is running so you so more spread it out passing.

He is more than just a athlete playing qb. The guy has played the position his whole life and it isn’t like he is a run first guy.

Don't be a bunch of skirts. You play the game to win, and King gives us the best shot. It's games like this that every kid dreams of playing in. You don't run from the challenge, you run towards it.

We've got every starter but Jordan returning on offense and every starter but the DEs returning on defense. We have multiple guys on this team who will play on Sundays. We shouldn't be scared of anyone, that's how all this **** started against LSU in 2003.

I think Lashlee calls the game a certain way with King because he knows that King is limited as a passer. He struggles to see the middle of the field, especially the short middle because of his height and his deep ball is just not accurate. At the beginning of the year, I thought that maybe he’d improve with more time in the offense and with his receivers but he really only threw the ball well vertically in that one game against NCSt. He does some things at an absolutely elite level but some parts of his game are below average. Ironically, I think if he gets a better handle on the zone read, it will actually open up the passing game for him. Right now, the game plan to stop Miami is to pinch your d linemen to overwhelm the interior line and shut off the inside zone running lanes. While playing man on the backside because even if Miami’s receivers beat their man, the throw will be in accurate. Even an accurate throw will still be a challenge since the receivers drop so many passes and rarely adjust to anything that’s not thrown perfectly. If King can get the read right and keep when the d-end crashes it will force the defensive line to have to play more traditional rush lanes. Which not only will open holes for the running back on the give but also open throwing lanes to attack the middle easier.

Sure, King just makes every list of top college QBs for next year, and is even on some preseason Heisman watch lists, but he's holding back the offense and Perry is the real answer. 🙄

Still, I’m riding with King week one if he’s healthy. He’s not going to be intimidated by Alabama and his leadership and presence are some of his elite qualities. Maybe TVD or Garcia end up eventually being the better passer but right now, D’Eriq King is OUR leader and OUR quarterback. He commands the upmost respect.

There is no chance he will be ready. Where is that physical therapist who told me I had zero idea what I was talking about? That the Dr and Nurses who do these surgeries knew less then him.
He's busy drawing up plans for the next banner to fly.

Go Canes!!!!

Add me to the list of people who are frustrated with Lashlee's play calling when King is in the game. I don't know if that's a Lashlee issue or if that's Lashlee adjusting to King's limitations as a passer, but either way, it was absolutely maddening at times. It needs to improve dramatically.

The offense operates best under King when they use the run to set up the pass. A lot of times people would get upset because the running game wasn’t generating much but the threat of the run is imperative with King as your quarterback. The last thing you want to see is for Lashlee to call a bunch of straight drop back passes in a row. It’s playing away from what the offense does best. I think it was the Virginia Tech game where they got a bit pass happy in the first half and really struggled to score. Everything operates at peak level when they’re able to draw the defense in and sucker their back seven to get over aggressive against the run. That’s when the passing game really starts to click. I just don’t think Miami had the personnel in 2020, whether it was King or the weak WR group, to just start flinging the ball all over the field.

Yea I agree about the practice. I find it hard to believe he will be strong enough to go against Bama, we gonna find out in September.
He maybe ready for Bama. Hope he is mentally preparing and studying the **** out of film. Just pray our backup plan is as good as our starting plan.

What "handicapped" the offense was interior line play. If the guard/center/guard lineup was half as good as King actually is there would be no talk of that man limiting the offense. Pretty sure we're in this position because Clark got called for holding on a King TD run and a play or two later on that drive King gets injured when he shoulda been drinking gatorade.

And if the WR's could catch King would be a heisman contender.
