Wildcard name for the LSU job: Mike Gundy.
Not an insane suggestion. Why not make a run at Gary Patterson then though?

Funny, I haven't heard Patterson's name mentioned that much but yeah now that you mention it, why wouldn't they go after Patterson?Wildcard name for the LSU job: Mike Gundy.

My money is on someone that will be a very underwhelming name. Think back on the last few "big time" job openings in college. Did any of the actual hires end up impressing you? We're probably near the top of the list as we exceeded many national expectations by getting Rick to jump right back in. Short of Harbaugh being lured "home" as well nothing else pops out recently as something that an objective person would deem an impressive big name "home run" hire.
...they'll be favored to get to the BCS championship...

I read somewhere one reason Patterson has stayed at TCU is agreements with alumni/trustees in the Oil business kick in if Patterson stays thru retirement. The value of these back-end deals is more than just a pay raise for jumping to another program.
I do not know if this is true or not, but it could explain why Patterson has never left. You would think he would have had numerous offers, even before TCU joined the Big 12.
Pretty sure LSU boosters will make whoever their next coach a nice backend deal like you describe here.

Obvious candidate. Saban disciple. Recruiter of the year. Prior head coaching experience. Crazy that his name hasn't been mentioned yet.No mention of Mario Cristobal? I heard he has interest in corching LSU
How about Bob Stoops?
He makes top dollar at OU but perhaps a change of scenery might be best for both schools?

Throw 15 mil a year at Saban and see what happens. Two birds, one big, fat stone.
Haha. You'd only get him a raise to $15,000,001 per year at Alabamy. They'd sell off parts of that campus before they let him go to another SEC school.

Too bad they didn't make one with Saban after he coached the Tigers to a NC.
