Mike Ryan tidbit

I think there are some good arguments to be made that Miami should not hire Zo for AD. However, arguing that Zo would be LyNn SwAnN 2.0 is a terrible argument.

Zo has almost ten years of NFL Exec experience running an organization, evaluating players, and doing much of what you would want an AD to do. He's well respected in the NFL and South Florida. He played in the league and understands what it takes to win.

There is not a single AD in the country that sits in on recruiting meetings breaking down film so idgaf how he is evaluating players. The AD job is very different from what he was doing in the NFL. Could he do a good job, maybe. But like the HC position the AD position isn't one where a guy should be learning on the job.

If we hire Mario or Lane we're going to be getting the same coverage. It's Mario's job until it isn't, and hiring him would generate massive buzz. Remember all the good buzz we got back when we hired Richt? Imagine that, except Mario is in the prime of his career and is recruiting and an extremely high level.
You're assuming that Miami will do the smart thing when everything in our recent history suggests we will royally ***** this up. At this point I'm praying for Mario, and I'm not a huge fan of his, because I feel the alternative is more of the same.

It was wrong the minute I read it and posted as such. Unless there is a massive change of heart, which I do not anticipate, there is close to zero truth about what was mentioned. Again I will stay, Manny is gone, there will be an upgrade at A.D., and some people mentioned or that have been mentioned may have a role in the organization but they will not be running the entire athletic department.
So, what's the benefit of all these smoke screens and optics making the inner workings of the school look like a joke ? Please shed light on this because we look like amateurs

This is about BoT egos.

These folks don't hear the word "no" very often.
I Guess If You Say So GIF

Miami needs a real athletic director and Alonzo Highsmith in a football-only, GM-type role. Period.

There is zero reason Highsmith or Gino Torretta—with zero AD experience—should be "the guy" in that role in 2021.

Then again, this is also a program that stumbled into hiring general counsel Paul Dee as athletic director and he held the role for 15 years .... so none of this comes as a surprise.
I think Zo will surprise you.

i wouldn't say crazy, but maybe try to think a little deeper than just him knowing canes football. zo played for us almost 40 years ago and hasn't touched college athletics since. he might make a great leader of the football team, but do you think he knows how to handle a basketball or baseball program? how about when the time comes to upgrade the tennis center or figure out new arrangements for the rowing team? we have a lot more sports than football, and we have to keep those maintained to stay in title ix compliance at minimum. being an athletic director requires a lot more than knowing just football.
Yeah, I agree, but it's almost a team, hes never alone.

On the other hand, what makes the money? Football and basketball.

If Zo or Gino is the new AD NOTHING CHANGES!!!!

Hiring a dentist to install your electrical panel doesn't work no matter how good of a dentist he/she is.

I've said it 100 times get an established and proven P5 AD. Zero ***s given about what former players have to say. They don't pay my season tixs and they barely attend the games.
