Mike Ryan Scoop--11/22/2021 The Dan Lebatard Show

Whether it is the Herbert years or now the offensive numbers are too low to win a national title or make the playoff. Thats where the issue with philosophy comes into question. In 2019 Oregon goes 12-2. S/P+ rated them the 15th best team in the country because it accounts for your opponents and the tempo you played at. Oregon's offense ranked 23rd overall and their defense ranked 8th. That defense was plenty good enough to get them to the playoff. LSU won it all with the 20th ranked defense in those ranking. LSU obviously was ranked first 1st in offense. The other playoff teams were ranked 2nd, 4th and 5th and they all attack differently than Oregon.

The numbers are the same as you continue to go further back. Notre Dame did make the playoff last year finishing 19th in offense playing out of the ACC but thats the outlier because in 2020 the other offenses who made the playoffs were ranked 1st, 2nd and 5th. If he gets hired and Miami has any aspirations of winning a national title he would have to change the way he wants to play offense. Anthony Brown or a top 6 pick, his current philosophy won't get it done unless he produce top 5 defenses consistently.
Another item - Miami went to its current offense not just because pro-style had become antiquated, but that it did not have the personnel on the offensive line to successfully run it. It's why we were shut out in the bowl game in the 2019 season. Lashlee's offense was in part to mitigate those disadvantages.

Fast forward to 2022, has Miami's offensive line situation improved enough where we can regularly put a quarterback under center?

didn't they bring us Coach L
I don't think Coach L was a bad hire - he turned this program around for a few seasons and recruited well. But given the last three or so years, a competent AD would have read the room and realized he's washed and the game has passed him by. He can't recruit a big man to save his life, and the mass exodus of transfers last season should have been the last straw.

Agree with the assessment : he inherited some solid talent, and Larkin was the key transfer : seems he relies more on transfers then High Schoolers, and as such these younger players booked. Also, the strength program needs to be questioned, seems like we lose half our rosters every year to injuries :

To be fair, Coach L in his first 7 seasons was pretty good. The 2012 and 2015 teams were so much fun to watch. So it hasn't been a totally botched hire.

He's just faded big time in the last 4 seasons. I think this is a big year for him but I'll be honest...I don't follow this team as much as I used to. Even then, college basketball leashes are waaaaayyyyyy longer than college football. If the new AD comes in and decides to take ALL sports serious then I imagine Coach L still has this season and likely next season to show improvement.

especially Jurich coming from Louisville

Exactly, and this is why Mario is not my top choice.
Exactly why I want Kiffin but the rumor was Mario wanted Lashlee before he came here. That’s a willingness to do something different. I can see the affinity of hiring Moorhead as well.. he was very highly sought after and highly regarded prior to going to be HC at Mississippi State.

Coming to Miami is a good way to escape that scenario because it’s not as good of a hire as he thought it was. DeRuyter is the same but on another scale of bad. Looked good at first but total meh hire. But the Saban formula includes hiring former HCs to be coordinators and he did that.

Oregon is 33rd in yards per play and 36th in scoring offense with a below-average QB.

It’s not like they can’t move the ball. If they had TVD, the numbers might be closer to the Herbert years (14th in scoring offense).
Mighty Stanford and stoney Brook are dragging those numbers down too

10 posts on Coach L and no one cared to mention that our program got decimated by a false FBI investigation that put a cloud over us and killed recruiting for 2+ years. It's been hard to build back from that, we had to recruit again as a losing team. They took all his momentum away.

D$ any thoughts on the report dropped last night regarding Manny getting another year…. Unless the AD says otherwise lol

Besides "Ferman is a moron"? Good lord, after getting hammered by his own employee, Matt Shodell, Ferman had to be shamed into rewriting the headline to the article to be less misleading...

what L did here in this conference, he deserved the leash. hes done now and I don't see him continuing to coach after this year tbh. L was a great hire tho and his results confirm it.

hes putting together a nice class this cycle or put together a nice class. I still think hes done now in terms of prime.

I can't imagine an AD coming in and not firing him. It would actually be the best move - you basically get a freebie. If you come in and fire Diaz, you instantly earn the love of the fans and you're going to reap the rewards of renewed optimism by hiring a guy like Mario or Lane. Most ADs probably feel hesitant to fire their largest revenue generator's coach, but in this case, he doesn't have a choice. I think if that new hire doesn't work out, most people would give him another shot at it because he didn't really have a choice to not fire Diaz due to his ineptitude. It's a win-win for him

Focus on the last part.
Thank you Dmoney, this helps calm the nerves. I know Ferman is normally full of crap and most likely put that up for click bait especially since it wasn’t behind a pay wall but it’s **** like that, that keeps this fan base already living on the edge about to finally jump off and be done with it all. Smh

Agree but he should never have had to fight this hard from this low... he was rolling.

Momentum is the product of the mass and velocity of an object, right? The FBI was a cement wall that stopped us in our tracks for a number of cycles. Harder to re-start from that low at his age. The fact that he is pulling is a good class right now is really remarkable. It could have sank him completely.
