Mike Ryan Scoop--11/22/2021 The Dan Lebatard Show

Not that he’d ever come obviously but hypothetically if he were to go college there’s a chance lol
I have word from a good source that Lane will be HC with Steve Belichick as DC, TFWIW.

Name one Miami guy we have hired in the past beside Shannon that has been bad?

Butch was amazing!!

Coker doesn’t count. He wasn’t a Miami guy!

Are you counting Diaz as a Miami guy? Dude never played college football & went to FSU.
Coker and Manny absolutely count. They were in the Miami fold and just handed the head coach position without even thinking about anyone else, which sounds like what's gonna happen with Mario if he wants the job

That is also far and away my biggest concern regarding Mario. This is where a strong AD and Zo would come into play in terms of steering Mario in the right direction offensively. Jurich would be a dream come true.
this is what I am hoping too.

Love that Mario is the clear and far away #1 choice but please God someone tell this guy to get himself a top flight OC who can keep TVD on his current trajectory... Or ****, keep Lashlee for all I care! But we absolutely cannot allow TVD to be neutered the way Herbert was at Oregon. Would be an absolute travesty and the fans would turn on Mario in his first year if this happened because we have seen what TVD is capable of in a certain type of offense. I am really concerned about this factor when hiring Mario.
Agree with you. Mario is my first choice as well but the days of conservative offense is over. Look at the last few national champs, high octane offenses with solid defenses.

You're not hiring Mario and then telling him to change his philosophy on offense. If you feel the need to do that with your clear cut #1 find a different #1.

Oregon is 33rd in yards per play and 36th in scoring offense with a below-average QB.

It’s not like they can’t move the ball. If they had TVD, the numbers might be closer to the Herbert years (14th in scoring offense).
You still think plans are to fire manny post duke?

D$ any thoughts on the report dropped last night regarding Manny getting another year…. Unless the AD says otherwise lol

Mario is the play.
Mas has been the guy who is pushing everything his first year on the board.
Blake was fired by Frenk. His call.
Blake biggest issue was not fighting for money from adminstration.
People leading the seach want AD to push administration for reasources.
Firm was hired but only for optics.
AD inside track is Jurich.
Big shift in BOT with new blood taking over.
Blake James refused to talk with Manny buyout after FSU.
Then Blake was fired. Not sure of the logic.
Jurich would likely agree with Alonzo due to age and scandel.
Florida is not in on Lane and Mario. Either would be Miami 1st.
Kirk Herbstreet was the catalyst of everything.
Mario is looking to demand resorces like Miami never has.
20 to 30 million is the floor.
John Ruiz is new money that will be the money behind everything.
It's seems like Mario is the man.
Any insight on OC/DC for Mario or Lane?

Whether it is the Herbert years or now the offensive numbers are too low to win a national title or make the playoff. Thats where the issue with philosophy comes into question. In 2019 Oregon goes 12-2. S/P+ rated them the 15th best team in the country because it accounts for your opponents and the tempo you played at. Oregon's offense ranked 23rd overall and their defense ranked 8th. That defense was plenty good enough to get them to the playoff. LSU won it all with the 20th ranked defense in those ranking. LSU obviously was ranked first 1st in offense. The other playoff teams were ranked 2nd, 4th and 5th and they all attack differently than Oregon.

The numbers are the same as you continue to go further back. Notre Dame did make the playoff last year finishing 19th in offense playing out of the ACC but thats the outlier because in 2020 the other offenses who made the playoffs were ranked 1st, 2nd and 5th. If he gets hired and Miami has any aspirations of winning a national title he would have to change the way he wants to play offense. Anthony Brown or a top 6 pick, his current philosophy won't get it done unless he produce top 5 defenses consistently.
