Michigan State finds success with under-the-radar recruits

To be fair, the other playoff game had two teams who recruit in Miami's current weight class.

There are a lot of reasons Alabama wins. Getting five stars is one reason but not the only reason.

There are a few steps Miami needs to make before it can consistently recruit that many four and five star players. That's what makes it so important to close on the local stars like Calvin Ridley and land the local sleepers like Eddie Jackson.

Stars do matter...but...Miami can afford to sign more 3-stars than most schools. You don't need a whole roster full of 4 and 5 stars to win down here. Many of our local 3-star kids would likely be rated higher if they played in an area that wasn't so dense with stud talent.

I think what it boils down to is evaluation. The 3-stars take more evaluation. They're not "no brainers". They're also likely to be a little smaller or lighter than ideal.

There has been plenty of local 3-star kids over the years that I would gladly take in a heartbeat. These kids are excelling at other schools around the country. Louisville had quite a few of them when they beat our ***.
