Michael Irvin II out for season

Sucks for Irvin, wish him the best & speedy recovery.

As far as the effect on the team, well... I guess the Coaches are going to have to get the young guys ready, God forbid.

That's what the Coaches get paid to do fellas, it's not the end of the world. You guys think the entire offense cannot function if Irvin isn't out there & if that's the case then there's something sincerely wrong.

We'll be fine.

Langham would be crazy not to request the move. The NFL values the pass-catching TE now more than ever.

When did Irving progress so much? He was pretty awful last year and was a non factor in the spring.

This. It sucks for him but Irvin was awful last year and bad in the Spring. Good chance he would have been 4th on the depth chart by the end of the season.

But this fanbase looks for any reason to meltdown. **** a QB throwing an incompletion in practice triggers it.

Yes, we need Brevin and Mallory to stay healthy, but we needed that anyways. They're the only 2 with the talent to play at a high level

I'll be that guy.

It certainly isn't good news. The flipside, it isn't necessarily all that bad of news, besides for depth.

Irvin, fancy last name here, but that's about it. People wanted to see what he could bring this year, but if the past matters at all, you shouldn't have been expecting much. If his name wasn't Irvin, he would justifiably be talked about the same way Polendy is.

Depth, young and forced to play. Should be fun to watch and I would bet every dollar I have that Jordan is already a better blocker than Irvin is. Mallory needs bulk to be a better blocker, but both the frosh can help this team as much as him right now. The only thing they don't know is the playbook nor the familiarity of prectice reps. Talent can overcome that.

This!!!!!!!!

Funny thing is Irving has already been out for two practices and no one noticed.

We got 12 pages of agony out of a missed pass in practice, so it’s not surprising to me that these guys are in full pandemonium after losing a guy they all thought was awful before he got hurt. They pay no mind to the fact that we have the best WR corps in conference and top 3 in the country.

If our offense hinges in any way on Irving then we suck anyway.

Couldn't agree more.

The season never hinged on Irving.

I suppose I misspoke. I was watching to see if he would progress, and really hoping he would for blocking purposes.
He was never going to be a good blocker. He’s neither physically nor mentally tough enough to be that sort of player. He’s not all that strong either.

At his absolute best he’d be a decent pass catching option as a backup TE.

The offense obviously doesn’t hinge on Irvin, and that’s not the point.

We can barely field 5 OL, and we just lost the projected starting TE. You said the same thing about unbalanced lines and 4 wide last year. But when it came time, we couldn’t pick up short yardage or goal line situations.

Honest question, with or without Irvin: do you like our chances 1st & goal from the 5 against good defenses? Cause I don’t.

He was atrocious , one of the worst I've seem from a te. I mean literally got his **** pushed in at the los.

That being said , it hurts. Depth is bad and he was at least decent as a receiving te, Polendey will have to step up. At least in the blocking dept. Hartley see,s to think he's improved more than anyone in the te room.
Lol.... Wouldn't say he was atrocious.. But he wasn't that good.... Had a couple nice catches.... But blocking? Whew... He got pushed back baaaaaad. Most of everyone last yr didn't care cause of who we had coming in.... Now folks acting like it's the end of the world..... Lmao

It’s the coaches’ job to get this offense scoring. There’s plenty of talent there to be a top ACC offense.

The loss of Irving has zero effect on my expectations for this offense. None. Coach needs to get it fixed. Irving is a non-factor, especially in goal line situations.

We have more weapons this season compared to last. The only weapon we lost was Herndon. By all accounts Jordan and Mallory have the higher ceiling (they need to work to that level though).

But Irvin wasn't exactly an All-American last year and he wasn't lighting it up in practice over the Spring either to give us any indication he was going to improve from last year.

Only reason this is an issue is that we have to throw inexperienced freshman out there at the position. But that's a problem that every team has at some point at random units.

Consider me worried.

RB is one of the best units on our squad, but we are gonna be forced into going 4 wide, with cupcake draws and RPO as our run game. And that’s between the 20s. We will have zero power run game to punch it in at the goal line, if last year is any indicator.

I’m one of the guys that questions Richt the playcaller. Everyone says he can’t do anything with Malik driving the bus, but where was the creativity last year? I’ll give him the wildcat, that worked out well. But fades to Harley was a more common occurrence than an unbalanced line. If I was more confident in Richt’s creativity, losing Irvin would be less of an issue for me.

He was like 230...LAST YEAR. Hasnt been 190 since he was a recruit coming in as a freshman

Yep, apparently both rosters I looked at were wrong, I have been admonished, my bad. Still no way that boy 240 IMO.

If you’re worried then you should have been worried before we lost Irving. Irving is a non-factor in the ability of this offense to be potent.

If our coaches can’t put together a potent offense with this group then they are not very good at their jobs.

The three linebackers got thrown right in a couple years ago and it worked out great, wouldn't be surprised if it is the same for Jordan and Mallory.

In the meantime more 4 WR sets until these two are ready to go. Bring in a 6th OL on the goal line.

Great
I think the tighten position will turn out how the linebackers position did when we started 3 freshman backers they will have growing pains but they will ball out I believe at least one will be a freshman all-American

Yup if we were still in rebuilding mode I would definitely be open to growing pains and just happy with a freshman All American. But that season we finished 9-4.

Here's a question though. At some point do you want to try and win championships?!

We have only three scholarship TE's left on the roster and an entire season to play + camp left to go. How can anyone even debate that we don't need depth? Not to mention two are freshman who arrived late.

The transition to college football is very hard. Freshman flash but rarely can they hold up for an entire season and be consistent.

This will become a problem and DJ Dallas isn't walking through that door.

I feel bad for Irving II but lets be honest, some folks on here acting like we lost Bubba Franks.

He isn't even Deadrick Epps, in reality

the young pups will be OK

All three freshman LBs enrolled early

I'm pretty sure that McCloud did not. Even so, they were true freshman playing HEAVY snaps at a much more difficult position. And they weren't rated as highly as recruits as Jordan and Mallory.
