Michael Irvin II out for season

We'll need another warm body at TE.

Three isn't going to cut it - especially since we haven't even started the season yet.

The lack of TE numbers and experience may bite us again this season.

Don't know why this staff hasn't put more effort into JUCO TEs.

We needed one 2 seasons ago, too.

Is there a limit on Grad Transfers? I think we should have been in the market for a Grad Transfer/Juco TE and QB.

this isn't good. Mallory was kinda injury prone in HS and I think he dealt with concussions so we are gonna need all the help we can at TE.

We wouldn't have had a choice but to use Irvin at an already inexperienced position. His loss makes the spot dangerously thin. This is setting up for a pretty big year for the frosh duo. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Honestly don't see it as a huge deal. Irvin has shown next to nothing. Wasn't known as an adept blocker or particularly strong TE. The biggest blow is just losing some (minimal) TE game experience and now counting on guys who aren't as familiar with the system.

Polendey is 6'6 245 and is supposedly more adept at blocking than anything else. Maybe Patchan (6'6 255) can get some situational reps at TE if needed (while being primarily DE)? Like many have mentioned, brining in a 6th OL in running situations is a good move.

We all know Mallory and Jordan are insanely talented, but they need time to get comfortable with the system and be dependable. However, from a physical standpoint, Jordan is ready.

Obviously, I'd rather it didn't occur. I feel bad for Irvin. But, I'm not overly worried about this.

There is no way anybody can spin this...absolutely not good regardless of how much promise the freshman have.

UM

I'll be that guy.

It certainly isn't good news. The flipside, it isn't necessarily all that bad of news, besides for depth.

Irvin, fancy last name here, but that's about it. People wanted to see what he could bring this year, but if the past matters at all, you shouldn't have been expecting much. If his name wasn't Irvin, he would justifiably be talked about the same way Polendy is.

Depth, young and forced to play. Should be fun to watch and I would bet every dollar I have that Jordan is already a better blocker than Irvin is. Mallory needs bulk to be a better blocker, but both the frosh can help this team as much as him right now. The only thing they don't know is the playbook nor the familiarity of prectice reps. Talent can overcome that.

He’ll come back stronger than ever next year. And will immediately at depth. He will be a redshirt junior and a big contributor as a rs sr in 2020

That bad weight and work ethic caught up to him. Next man in. We have enough big boys with hands. PRO-CEED.

You're fooling yourselves if you think this doesn't hurt, at least a little, against LSU. I don't have any confidence Jordan and Mallory will hold up in the run game against SEC defensive edge players and backers. Not good. This will probably force Richt to go even more spread than he already planned.

But you were confident in Irvin's run blocking? I agree it hurts, but not in the way you are stating.
