Miami wins because...

I don’t think you are understanding what I mean. We had a great opportunity to work on throwing it all over the yard and instead we ran the ball 50 times and TVD did not look comfortable. Unless a miracle happens, that isn’t going to work this weekend. IMO we missed a chance to work on things that have a much better chance of working against better opponents.
We clearly were trying to work on the throwing game. TVD also clearly didn't have it. If we continued to force the passing game and were in a 17-7 game in the 4th quarter, what's the reaction then?

Switching to the run first attack and dominating wasn't a bad idea.

Now if TVD continues to struggle moving forward, then we can really begin to worry, but I am chalking last week up as him having an off day. If last week's performance becomes a trend, then we worry.

In no specific order...

Gattis doesn't die by the run
Mallory remembers how to catch and/or figures out how to block - this could be as important as a WR stepping up
Zion plays like an early 1st round pick

Ivey plays the game of his life and is never on the field at the same time as Blades
Our LB get a +10 speed bonus / King can't escape the pocket
Our DE actually sack their QB(s) instead of just getting close

No muffed punts
No missing easy FG
No blocked kicks allowed

Get off the field on 3rd downs on D, convert 3rd downs on O
If we are down early, nobody plays like its already over
If we are up early, don't get overly conservative

That may seem like a lot, but its not.

OL blocks well, TE’s catch the ball for 1st downs, over 120 yards rushing, D mostly shuts down the Aggies run game and allow no more than 3 splash plays.

Your last paragraph is my concern. TVD was lights out on that 2 minute drive, bc that’s his game. I saw a direct correlation between how bad he looked going slow vs how good he looked going fast and not thinking. We should do more of that.

1. Tackle and get off the field on 3rd down defensively
2. Create negative plays/Turnovers against their offense
3. Respond to their big plays/TD (It's going to happen)
4. Communicate
5. Score TD's not 3's
6. Be creative offensively.
7. OL has to be better against stunts and delay blitez
8. TVD has to be accurate and give his WR's chance for YAC

Does A&M do much of this? From what I have read they are more read react.

Southern Miss’ dc is apparently pretty respected. They used some really unusual techniques in how they ran their stunts that completely confused our offensive lines.

The timing, angles and footwork they used was really impressive. It was like watching how a master boxer creates openings to attack. I don’t think there are many teams that can duplicate that, especially now that Mario and Mirabel can coach these guys up after facing it live.

I think aTm’s read and react style will play into our hands.

I am not sure, haven't looked into it. If their DC is worth salt, he will implement it after watching the Southern Miss film

He also looked fine in the 2nd half going slow.

Like I said, I'm not sounding the alarms yet. He showed multiple times last year that he can be a slow starter that needs 2 quarters or more before he catches fire. It could be growing pains in a new system, it could be how TVD is wired, it could be a bad system for him.

This weekend will paint the picture a little more clearer.

The narrative that some are pushing of Gattis being all about the run is simply not supported by much. In the USM game that people cite, we attempted 19 passes in the 1st half of the game, plus got sacked on 3 other downs that would have been pass plays. That is 22 called pass plays in one HALF of a game. In the second half we focused more on the run because, frankly, TVD was having a rough start and the run game was producing.

This all day!!!

-Our Oline holds up and doesnt fold like in past. Would say TVD but if oline cant hold up and is outclassed early, he will probably not even factor (clemson game was over in first few plays because you saw oline couldnt hold up, wonder how many of same guys on that line)

-We capitalize on Turnovers (They have given gifts on first few games, app st capitalize on both turnovers, we have to do the same)

*Just looked it up, we had 4 of the same olinemen on road in clemson for that 2020 game (Campbell, Jakai, Scaife and Nelson) that game was over because we couldnt do anything upfront, was a baptism. Lets see if these guys have actually grown and what coaching can do. 5 sacks, 11 Tackles for loss, 89 rushing yards on 25 att. Most yards came from King running for his life (84 yards) Other leading rusher Cam Harris had 3 yards on 8 Carries.
Facts all around. Will say, though, that this is a different OL scheme.

Miami wins because....................

On defense:
1. Our corners hold up in coverage and take away the explosive plays
2. We tackle and don't give up run after contact yardage
3. Leonard Taylor plays up to his talent and dominates the interior against A&M's guards
4. Miami LBs play well in coverage against A&M's RBs

On offense:
1. Interior OL plays well and can consistently open holes for the run game. If we can run the ball they will drop a safety in the box and open up opportunities on the outside
2. TVD is locked in. If TVD plays to his talent he will make up for a lot of our deficiencies on offense
3. TEs feast on seam routes. Draw safeties to the midedle and open up one-on-one opportunities for our WRs
4. WRs produce explosive plays. Whether the run creates explosive plays on the outside or the explosive plays open up running lanes, they feed off each other and we need both to win

We win because since Jimbo has been the HC at A&M, he is 1-3 or 1-4 when the IOS update is before his next game. The only time he won, 2020 against Auburn.

Coaches disagree with you. The ONE THING that didn't work at all in 2021 was the run game ... it totally killed the offense and they had to rely 99% on the passing game. That worked last year but won't this year. Do they need to pass more? Yes ... and I believe they will. They work on the passing game a lot more in practice than they have shown in the two scrimmages so far. Now we have to hope that a WR steps up to replace X.

I never said we abandon the run. I said the passing game needs to get into a rhythm and we don’t need to take 30 seconds to snap the ball. There is zero explosiveness to our offense. That is the porblem with what Gattis has shown. When you don’t have an O line who can hold up, tempo is the best way to wear down a D line. We aren’t gonna have 15 play drives all day against A&M.
