Miami opens at -18.5 vs USF

That’s a heck of a spread. Would not bet it if I were a gambler. On the other hand we crushed them last year despite them figuring our DBs out. That QB just isn’t that good of a passer. So go single high safety and man at CB, load the box and stop the run, and it’s game over.

Another game for Scott to be the impact player. He makes a great spy because he’s not afraid to lay the wood.
Scott has flashed some but has me worried. In both games, he's blown a coverage letting a TE or WR get behind him while peeking in the backfield and walking up towards the LOS.

  • Miami should win handily by the end of the game.
  • USF will keep it close in the first half, and give Miami some fits early. Same as 2024.
  • CIS gameday thread will be wild as usual.
  • CIS will find plenty to complain about post-game, despite a 24-point win

So Boise and Florida have the equivalent type offense as Miami.....which makes USF a threat....got it!!!

Our trash defense held them to 15 points last year.

A lot of people are playing the results with USF without having actually watched the games. Against Florida, they were generally horrible through three and a half quarters on offense. Then they had a 68 yard touchdown pass that was thrown into double coverage and two gator defenders ran into each other. They then proceeded to have back to back three and outs followed by a 40 yard drive that ended with a missed 58 yard field goal. Their final drive of the game would have ended without a first down if Florida didn’t self destruct with penalties.

USF isn’t trash. They’re a good G5 team with a dangerous quarterback and an offense that can expose you in no huddle. That said, they have G5 linemen. They can’t block us nor stop us from running on them without heavily loading the box. We’re not going to beat them 50-15 again but I would be absolutely shocked if this game isn’t something like 41-17.

Agreed, but I will say that USF's G5 OL was getting good push in the 4th quarter against UFs DL.

I think UF’s defense threw in the towel after the penalties. USF had a long run where it should have been a tackle for loss and their 160lb running back broke like 5 tackles. The other 90% of the game they struggled to move the ball consistently. It was either a chunk play or absolutely nothing.

18.5 is a crazy line.... I mean I never wanna bet against my Canes but geezz man.... That ' s tough to look past from a money perspective...

Probably why he had trouble playing on the outside. He is always in attack mode which is good for covering short routes out of the slot and attacking ball carriers like a 3rd LB. But you are absolutely correct that his aggressiveness has been used against him twice in 2 games.

He was probably susceptible to double moves on the outside.

I don't think it's that crazy. The line is just pricing mean reversion wrt the good fortune - turnovers, USF explosives on offense, fortuitous penalties, etc. - USF has gotten in their first two games.

They're +4 TO-margin and while they're only +29 on penalty yards, UF had two TDs negated by penalties within 4 plays & gave USF 30 yards of field position on dumb and dumber penalties on USF's final drive.

Will be a great test for Hetherman and the defense though, as, lucky or not, USF has been best at the thing - generating offensive explosives - that we were historically bad at defending last year (and haven't been great at so far this year).
