FSU cleaning up. This **** is depressing.
They just won the national title why wouldnt kids consider them
They where cleaning **** up, before they ****ing won. And by cleaning up, I mean taking pretty much every recruit that was a head to head battle with Diabeetus gut and had commitable offers from both schools. ****s just sad.
Lets at least be real about the criticism. Only 6 of FSU's starters are from Sofl.
Freeman, Hart, Greene and Joyner committed to FSU before Golden was even hired. Greene moved in the area when he was an 11th grader...The other 2, O'Leary and Benjamin, committed shortly afterwards. Al didn't have a chance with them.
Name a key player that Al lost head-to-head that contributed to their NC...Even though he's from Orlando, starting KR Kermit?
Golden can be blamed for alot of things but FSU's NC isn't one of them. They cherry pick nationally- Winston, Goldman, Darby, Ramsey, Erving, both Smiths, Edwards, etc, etc.
Again, name some. I'll wait...
That's a good point. Back in the mid-80's, when I was more fanatic about recruiting, I used to check the FSU and UF rosters for south Florida players, and neither school would have that many. Usually, UF had even fewer than FSU, and both were way way below UM. Often, the players they had were pretty good, but not always. Some years in a row, UF's south Florida players could be counted on one hand.
When Spurrier was at UF, he was downrighted frustrated at his inability to break south Florida? Remember his pouting in the offices of the MNW coaches, alleging that they were pushing kids to UM?
Yeah, those schools will cherry pick some gems, they did this year, but even now, we're still winning more head to heads. I know that Cook, Lane and Powell hurt to lose, but I think we'll start winning more and more battles, especially against the out-of-state schools as we improve.
We're not doing so badly. We'll never get them all, but we'll get more than our share.
You mention Kelvin Benjamin. I remember when we couldn't recruit Belle Glade at all. Our first breakthrough was probably Nakia Jenkins, back in the late '80's or early '90's. He never enrolled. He was not really from Belle Glade, had just moved there. I think our first
real breakthrough was James Jackson. Then we got some more.
It seems everybody went to UF: Louis Oliver (as a walkon); Fred Taylor, Reidel Anthony, Ray McDonald, Jimmy Spencer, Rhondy Weston, Johnny Rutledge. FSU got very few, maybe Jesse Hester and a few others.
We're actually doing better in some places. We never recruited the muck that well in the '80's and '90's. Lost Johnny Davis (Pahokee) and Anquan Boldin (Pahokee).
