Miami and USC. Two private schools on very different paths right now (both athletically and academically). It all starts with a credible AD.

"The hiring of Foley would be a glaring sign that USC’s athletic department is breaking away from the self-sabotaging pattern of hiring unqualified former players."

USC is going to hit a homerun with their new AD, who is going to hire Meyer and USC will be in the playoffs in 2 years. Meanwhile, Blake James will throw a ticket tape parade (and have a contract extension ready) for Diaz if he manages to wins the ACC coastal in year 3.

The 1st step to is fire Flake James and then get an AD in here committed to winning championships. The admin is so dumb that even if James is fired, they would probably get some other loser for AD to run the show. After the last 15 years, nothing would surprise me. Until the people in charge decide to get serious about football, the crap show will continue. Hope I’m wrong. It hate seeing the Canes lose!

look for the new President of SC, i think her name is Fort to name great AD. she has a wealth of experience
at UNC and shepherded them thru the athletic scandal. She realizes how important successful athletic programs positively impact the school. She gave Lynn Swan an ultimatum resign or be fired. new day at SC and although Trojans ex players still have clout they are not the final word any more. SC and Urban seem a perfect fit whole ;ton of talent on team( ready to win) fertile recruiting grounds.... however new AD/President might not want the "Urban Baggage" SC search will be very interesting, not to say Urban will not get job however its no slam dunk

could not agree with your assement more, winning starts at top..... Miami President takes a hands off approach
and we have 2 people who are basically clueless when it come to providing dynamic leadership James/Frawely

The University President has an entire University to run

The Athletic Department is one of many parts of the University and to some of your surprise it is NOT the biggest revenue generator.

The University generated $350 million in research grants alone in 2018....income $$ from ALL football related actives are miniscule in comparison

Anyone that feels that the Athletic Department should be the main emphasis of a University is NOT in touch with reality or the University's mission

Most Football "factories" schools generate most of their $$$ for Athletic improvements through donors and individual giving....the simple fact is our fans don't give as much......but we ALWAYS want to tell others how to spend their $$$.

Bags don't come from the University ....bags comes from Boosters

Want more from Miami in football etc.? Give more of your $$ to the Athletic Department.

Glad to see this jack-*** writer is still kissing Urbie's *** & lovin the Gators.

USC is a ****-show at a much higher level than Miami. Forget the current coach and prior coaching hires, they've had a fixation with unqualified, in-bred ADs for a couple decades. Only reason for most recent success was Pete Carroll, who had complete control over the program and eventually ran amok of the NCAA.

No way Foley is coming out of cushy retirement and jetting off to LA. Sure our Gator friends on board would know, but were Jeremy and Urb really that close at the end? Sure Mr. Foley is well aware of the drama accompanying Urb.

Miami and Southern Cal are both private schools in warm-weather climates, who in the past tried to mirror each other's successful runs.

That's about where the comparisons end.

Southern Cal has a much stronger, vocal, money-driven alumni base, influential alumni that will open their wallets and use their influence to get their football program where they need it to be.

Miami has fans still wearing old Nike gear to games and setting up GoFundMe pages for a $495 banner to yell at the athletic director.

Don't even attempt to compare these two programs. Money talks, bullsh1t walks. Until Miami fans / alum are willing to open their wallet to support UM at a higher level, the university is more than fine with adidas and ACC money.

Bottom line, SC has way more cash than Miami. Yes, both are small private schools, but SC's financial endowment is far greater than ours, which equals more purchasing power.
And it's not even really close. USC also has one of the richest alumni bases. They could easily go to -- let's say say George Lucas -- and ask him to cut a check for the athletic department, and he'd do it. No questions asked.

They were number 4 on this 2017 list of schools that produced the most billionaires -- AHEAD of Harvard.

In all fairness, the academics across the board have slipped almost as much as the athletics under Frenk. He is an unmitigated disaster as President.

Athletics haven’t slipped under Frenk. We’ve never invested more in our facilities than under his Presidency.

That being said, I think he’s had zero to do with it.

Believe most, if not all, USC player scholarships and coaching positions are fully endowed. As a contrast, Miami has to hold a last-minute bake sale to complete indoor facility.
