Miami Lands Tennessee Safety Transfer JaKobe Thomas

6 portal transfers in the secondary and hopefully 7 for a team in South Florida

I love what we’ve done but **** me that just blows my mind
It is starting to appear as if Lance Guidry convinced Mario last year that we were good enough in the secondary..am I off base here?

We are apparently willing to do whatever it takes to improve a position group and last year we made little to no effort to improve the secondary. Did Guidry misjudge the talent we had?

Some HS stuff here. Good athlete. A little linear, but more juice than Amari Carter:

In 2023, He was credited with missing 21 tackles, which was ninth most amongst all FBS safeties.

In 2024, he missed six tackles with a missed tackle rate of 22.2 percent

They’re going to need to coach all the missed tackles out of him
Good one there. The new guy is still humping pool floats and calling it a tackling circuit.

"Tennessee’s attempts last week to keep safety Jakobe Thomas out of the college football transfer portal proved to be unsuccessful as the projected starter for the Vols’ 2025 defense officially appeared in the transfer database on Monday afternoon, a source told GoVols247. Thomas’s agent told ESPN on Thursday afternoon that his client intended to hit the portal, but it took four days for the process to be completed. The spring portal window closed officially on Friday," but with programs having a 48-hour time frame to complete the process after a player notifies them of their intentions and weekends not included, entries could spill into this week for teams across the country"
Mediocre PFF grades, couldn't earn major playing time at Tennessee, hasn't had a pick since 2022.

He makes us better but hopefully he's not a starter for us.

I actual have found new Appreciation for Amari Head Hunter Carter. He can play assignments Footballl & altleast understand angles. Way better Former #7 who brought below Gurvan Hall level poor Safety play
At east for the ten minutes he was on the field before he got ejected.

Absolutely insane how pathetically we’ve recruited and developed in the secondary.

2026 looks really good, but a lot of other years have too and went up in smoke. This isn’t even a
Mario thing, we are allergic to good DBs as a program. Who’s the best DB this place has produced in the last 10+ years? Kam was a top 100 pick and played well his rookie year so it’s probably him but before that? Mike Jackson in like 2018 as a 5th rounder? Incredible.

Stevenson count?

Anyone is better than Jaden Harris, but this is another JAG. Missed tackle rate between 20% and 22% each year in college. 70% career completion rate allowed.

Calling it like I see it. 🤷🏾‍♂️
Is our top 3 portal class a bunch of JAG’s too? Stick to your horrendous basketball takes

I’m from Nashville and asked my Vols friend who knows ball.

“We were caught off guard big time by that. Was gonna start at a relatively thin position. Jakobe Thomas is not great in pass pro but will end multiple lives in the run game and on crossing routes. Very valuable asset”
not great in pass pro after what we just witnessed.

Even with what I have said about Thomas and prefer Haulcy… we now have 2 safeties better than our best safety a year ago.

Meesh wasn’t terrible but he was played out of position. Hes more of a nickel. Poyser and Thomas are better true safeties. Could probably throw Day in that conversation with the growth/development he has had since then.

Now let’s get Keionte Scott and a DT and close it up.

The thing is hetherman likes to use 3 safeties in his 4-2-5. Think that’s the reason they going after so many guys because I don’t think Brantley fits as the type he would normally have at nickel. Brantley is what 5’11 170?

Thats why I believe they would like haulcy and Thomas. Haulcy would probably play more nickel. Would be a good spot for brown too but I guess he just wants to be a outside guy
