They aren't afraid of Butch Davis. Rival fans aren't afraid of Butch Davis either. It would be a signal to them that Miami settled and is living in the past. As that article alludes, Butch should be the fail safe option if you strike out on others.

You know who would win more here? Kelly

He's 57 levels about Butch on gameday. Whatever advantage Butch has on him in recruiting would level out after recruits see what Kelly's system does with South Florida skill position talent.

I'll repeat....these 2 are on different levels. There's a reason one is available and one isn't. If Kelly did become available there would be a bidding war the likes of which the college game hasn't seen in a while. There's nobody knocking down Butch's door in any way close to this manner.

I get that some of you have an infatuation with Butch...but you guys need to stop acting like he'd be a sure thing. He's not a great gameday coach and his management style would take time to field a winner. He'd be far from an overnight fix.
