Miami has offered DT Edgar Cerenord

They say he's 6'1 and a half, 299 is a pretty good size. As far as height goes, Wilfork is only half inch taller than this guy. Dont see the big deal. Looks pretty good to me... just another good player to add to an already lethal D line class.

Valentine, Moten and Jenkins aren't going anywhere. This defensive line class is already an A+. Cerenord is just another good defensive lineman to add to the mix. This team needs as many as it can get.

I met Cerenord through his cousin, Hurrickaneof83. Very respectful and sharp young man. Way too smart to be a defensive tackle. On the field, he moves like a linebacker and plays hard. Similar style to 2015 DT Brandon Boyce from University School.

Size is of course the concern but he has long arms and borderline freakish hands. Here's a story Pete did on him back in September 2012:

You sayin DTs are dumb D$?

Looking at his offer list, it appears that Duke is about his best option.

A lot of folks here think we need to start bringing in Duke caliber talent if we wanna win 10 games. :quag:

We'll have won ten games by the end of December

I like the kid. I just think giving our defensive line issues I am more prone to continue to stock pile our depth with players a little bit more talent may be ready mid year to early year...

I just don't think we have proven YET that we can take a kid like this and maximize his skill set to make him the next..................I just think we may need another JUCO body and maybe try to ready shirt one of they guys on our team...we already have King and Moore on the roster and they continue fall further behind on the depth chart...

JMO...I don't think we can justify taking a kid like this yet...not yet...

Some posters on hear are not happy with this offer. What's wrong with taking a 6'1" 290 DT and developing him into a 6'1" 310 player in the next two years. We need DT's that are willing to develop for a year or two before seeing the field.

If that kid is 6'1" 290 then my **** is 1.5 inches long.

One is an overestimate...hint, it's not the kid's size.

We don't need any extra reasons to offer another DT other than we have sucked there for years. Hope it doesn't mean Valentine is coming into question for any reason. This kid doesn't fill as a replacement for him but is fine as another one to redshirt for a year of S&C. Quick feet was the hallmark of our great DTs.

All you guys talkin' about how he's quick, uses low pad level and lives in backfield are forgetting (or have no clue) what we run on defense.

This kid's main talents are void in our scheme. There's nothing about that tape that says he's gonna be a good 2-gap NT. He certainly ain't a 3-4 DE. Too short.

In our current scheme I don't see where he fits. We're basically hoping he can do something (when he gets to Miami) that he's never been asked to do before. (read and control offensive linemen)

I don't hate the offer...but I would really LOVE the offer if we were planning to use him as a 3-technique in a 1-gap scheme.

Exactly...being quick has no place in our scheme....

Regardless of your thoughts on this DT, you don't replace a JUCO DT with a HS Senior DT. It doesn't make sense. You SHOULDN'T replace a HS Senior with a JUCO DT and expect the same thing right away.

The problem is we're out of JC DT options. Sure, there are some JC JAGS we can pluck, but honestly, if we're getting JC JAGs, I'd rather just go for HS DTs.

You have to put it in context. We have completely missed on DT recruiting for the last two recruiting cycles. In other words, had e we signed Bostwick in the last cycle, this kid would not have an offer now. There is no DT depth on our roster. How do you fix that problem? You pull in JUCO DTs. When you miss on your JUCO DTs (Pelon/Johnson) as we have, then you have to add depth, even if that depth is not ready to play. So that is why you offer this DT.

The hope for the coaching staff is that Valentine is ready to play next year, and effectively serves as our second JUCO DT, in addition to Wyche.

We can also try the waiver wire route, but that is basically pulling in damaged goods or underperformers, so you can't count on them to make a big impact.

I have no problem with this guy but personally I thought we'd be good with HS DT's with Jenkins, valentine, and moten...what we could really use is a big time juco DT instant impact

Were obviously done at JUCO DT. Its Wyche and what we have. At least we got one JUCO.

IMO Im hoping we move back to primarily a 4-3. We have plenty of guys who can be serviceable in a 4-3 next year. Chick can play inside, Pierre, Moore, Kamalu, Wyche, Hamilton, and maybe a kid like Valentine. That gives you a 3-4 deep right there. If we decide to go to a situational 3-4, you can probably get Moore at NT, and maybe Jenkins as a backup if he looks ready. But we defintely would be much better suited running a 4-3.

This. We actually have the personnel NOW to run a 4-3. Next year will be even better.

Good post and a lot of the same thoughts I had when watching. Kid looks like a player, I just want to know what we have in mind for him.

Clicked the link, watched the tape, and came to this thread to write this more or less.
