Miami has offered DT Edgar Cerenord

I watched his tape twice, and let me admit flat out watching a guy's highlight tape merely gets you a feel for what he can do, and not what he can't do most of the time. This tape shows a kid who can do several things decently, a few things well and nothing really great.

His positives are that he knows how to use his hands pretty well. A DT has to be able to use his hands and has to be able to have a move that he can go to to defeat an OL. He uses leverage and his hands to win at the LOS. He tackles well and locates the ball, which is a great trait for a DT to have. He seems to understand who he is, what his responsibilities are and how to use leverage. He appears to work hard on the field and isn't a guy who gives up once initial move is stopped.

His negatives are he's small. Maybe he's measured at 6-1, 290 but he doesn't appear to have the frame to really grow into a 320 pound fireplug. He's not fast and is merely average quickness. He has short arms, and isn't extremely powerful. He's on the ground more than you'd like from a DT.

For me, he's a career backup, but has some solid traits and can be a decent depth player if he continues to work. His offer sheet is legitimate outside of the Miami offer, he's being recruited to his talent level. Fringe guy for this level based on this nine minute tape.

I aint mad at this offer after watching his highlights.

I see a DT that closes on the ball fast as **** for his size, once he sheds the block he's instantly on top of the QB. He uses his hands well to manipulate blockers and actually uses different moves to shed blocks. He is shown playing both end and nose when they go to a three man showing good versatility.

I like how he finds the ball well even when engaged, there were multiple times where he was fighting through an OL's shoulder only to see the ball, rip through to the OL's other shoulder filling the gap and making the tackle without losing ground. On top of it when he gets there he puts mother****ers on they ***, he was cracking some skulls on that highlight.

At the end of the day he wasnt at the top of our list but I cant be mad if we get him. I like what the film shows and he produces, a DT with almost a 10 minute highlight tape is impressive if most of the tackles are around the LOS.

This guy^^^ gets it. Most of you complaining must be blind and the same idiots who said that Rashawn Scott was a bad get by AG.

If you clowns would have taken the time to watch his tape, you would have seen that the kid had skills from the get go.

This kid is gonna be a baller for the U if he commits to us. Can't wait to see all of the excuses that are gonna be given when that day comes.

Rashawn Scott's HL tape was 5 minutes of him absolutely kicking the **** out of the competition.

That's exactly my point. That didn't stop a bunch of porsters from crying and *****ing that he was playing against bad competition, not UM material, blah, blah, blah. All because he was rated a low 3-Star.

Then the kid balls out and these same porsters are talking **** about how much of a beast he is.

Bottom line is, nobody knows 100% who is gonna be a great player in college or not, with very few exceptions (Coley, AP, Reggie Bush, etc.)

I heard the same **** about every DT we crooted the last 5 years... This guy screams jag...If we really wanted him we would've been after him. This is not you guy first rodeo... You know when we go after a guy this late we lost someone..EIther a DT is transferring or Valentine aint coming..Jesus you guys are pathetic

So what if he's just for depth? Our current depth chart contains guys like Earl Moore and Corey King...this dude has better tape coming out of HS than either of them. This kid doesn't look like an elite guy, nor will he ever be one. That's fine though, he can still contribute if he chooses to come here. Now don't get me wrong, I'd obviously much rather have an elite DT, but those guys are incredibly difficult to evaluate and get. Time will tell though.

SO you actually think we offer a guy this late in the process for depth? If you really think Golden is the organizer we all think he is, you know this isn't a depth issue..this is a we losing someone issue

I'm trying to figure out WTF your point is? No **** it's a back up plan.

How is that your point? Cerenord's tape isn't just him kicking the crap out of the competition over and over again.

I don't know why so many people are prematurely worked up about this offer. It's not like the guy committed on the spot, he might not ever commit.

I'll tell you one thing...he understands leverage and keeping his pad level low. You really see this a lot from him. Look at the plays behind or at the LOS.

He's basically about 4ft tall on those plays= low pad level= nada for the offense

Good stuff!

Valentine, Moten and Jenkins aren't going anywhere. This defensive line class is already an A+. Cerenord is just another good defensive lineman to add to the mix. This team needs as many as it can get.

I met Cerenord through his cousin, Hurrickaneof83. Very respectful and sharp young man. Way too smart to be a defensive tackle. On the field, he moves like a linebacker and plays hard. Similar style to 2015 DT Brandon Boyce from University School.

Size is of course the concern but he has long arms and borderline freakish hands. Here's a story Pete did on him back in September 2012:
