The situation with these local handlers is getting more out of hand after NIl began.
The issue with the out of state schools is that they only have to dip into Florida whenever they want one kid. We have a huge recruiting pool down here, but it looks like every time we even want three star we have to deal with these people.
This is likely the reason why Mario is so focused on national recruiting. It’s the reason why school like Nebraska or even Wisconsin can come down here and all of a sudden get a kid out of nowhere. They only had to focus on the individuals around one kid. If we’re recruiting six or seven local South Florida kids how many people is the program gonna break off?
It’s a conundrum that I sort of sympathize with considering some of the situations these kids come from. The issue is how much are these local handlers really helping these kids. And streeter actually said something that’s pretty telling in the interview with dmoney. He said something g to the sort of “so you’re taking a kid to chipotle instead of McDonald’s and now you want thousands of dollars”?
And honestly, I think this is the reason why I know single school is able to in one year recruit multiple kids from South Florida. PS2 went to bama and Tyson Campbell went to Georgia. You would figure you could try to get both of them if you were Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. But we couldn’t even hand out enough money to get one.
I think with the amount of NRL that’s being handed out and the legality of the contracts and agents involved; this is starting to become a more difficult issue to navigate in.
But again, this is all speculation
