Miami fans still calling for Butch Davis

Just a reminder it took Butch 5 seasons to win 10 games at Miami.

I'm sure Canesforver has a good reponse for that

U must have the memory of a weak MOUSE. Because Davis wasn't playing with a full deck of Orange and Green cards. hUh. The MAJOR lost of scholarships due to the probation period and what not. dUh.

Richt has us at 19-6 over his first 25 games.

Would Butch have done that much worse?

Which of the 50 teams with coaching vacancies are you hearing has targeted ole Butch?

There weren't 50 teams that targeted Butch when we hired him.

I can find fifty dumbasses in three minutes - just because they collectively don't know something - doesn't make them right.

That's the problem. Today, lots of pups weren't grown-assed men when all this went down.

They'll look at a few stats, make a determination, and they still don't know jack ****.

Lol y'all sound like the dude who keeps talking about his ex from 17 years ago.

Here is what we canes fans need to understand, which every time I post our illustrious and knowledgeable fans tell me to literally GTH. Richt is the nicest man you'll ever meet however the truth behind the man hurts like ****. Consistently he has had top 5 recruiting classes at UGA year in and year out. Kirby Smart is winning big time with Richt's kids but the reality is that year in/year out he had on average 2-3 loses per year and ended up consistently playing in a bowl game in Orlando/Tampa. This is what we will get with Richt year in/out. Talk to me in a couple of years to see where we are as a Program! In my opinion, Butch Davis is a **** of a lot better coach than Richt will ever be. History has proven this.

How has history proven that?

What has Butch done since he left Miami 18 years ago?

OP please give up the Butch postings. Stupid.

Just put me on ignore and/or report my poRsts to CiS mods.

Guy is a better coach than Richt.

Butchs best team wipes the floor with any team Richt EVER coached.

Go review butchs record here, game by game. He had some bad losses, And people
Wanted him fired.

He did recruit the most talented team ever, for sure.

Let’s get serious for a moment.

Butch Davis isn’t walking through that door. I know people are ****ed about last night, but Richt is the horse we are riding, and we now have to concentrate on two things:

1. Beating Wisky in our own House. A victory in the Orange Bowl sets the stage for a strong recruiting season, Spring Ball, and serves as a tonic to a vicious beatdown by the National Champions.

2. Recruiting and Building a team that can get past Clemson. Dabo Swiney’s Team is our Nick Saban. He’s what stands in the way of our being “back” in any serious sense of the word.

Butch is at FIU. Leave him there.

Right... Butch is at FIU, moot point. But lets forget about beating Clemson in a future ACCCG. Lets worry about a respectable offense. Lets worry about the ACC games next year that we haven't won yet (and LSU), and not worrying about a championship with Clemson. Lets find a way to sustain a drive so our defense can sit on the bench and watch some football for a change... and get a breather.

He wouldn't kick a field goal when we're in the red zone with a couple feet to make first - while behind by a thousand points.

At least Butch go for it, and actually have a play to get it.

I actually agreed with Richt’s decision, and here’s why.

He didn’t want his team to get blanked by Clemson twice, and that FG was a signal that at that point, Richt knew that the team was exhausted and couldn’t manage a single yard. We might think as fans that they could, but Richt was on the ground and had a better take on how that OL was doing. They were getting no push. At all. And that was Clemson’s 2nd and 3rd Team Defensive Line out there.

It was that bad.

You want to be the best, you have to learn from the best how to beat them. That’s a steep and long learning curve that will involve beating other teams and creating a Sixty Minute offense and Defense that shows up every game. You know, not just for Vag Tech and ND.

Canes went 8-3, winning the last 7 in row. Co-Big East Champs with #10 VaTech. No bowl due to sanctions.

I didn't and don't want Davis back, but saying 1995 was a failure is a laugh. The program was in shambles.

The program was not in shambles in 1995.

Go look at the roster he inherited. Loaded. Granted it was mostly upperclassmen and he had to rebuild after that but to claim that 1995 was a success is what's laughable.

These were their wins:

Florida A&M (non-D1)
Rutgers (4-7)
Pittsburgh (2-9)
Temple (1-10)
Baylor (7-4)
Boston College (4-8)
West Virginia (5-6)
Syracuse (9-3)

Lost twice by blowout (UCLA, Florida State) and lost the conference championship tiebreak to Virginia Tech.

And basically beat nobody. One of the worst schedules we've played in 30+ years.

After Cleveland, UNC hires him. He was turning around that program before questionable sanctions took him out.

How was he turning them around? He went 8-5 three years in a row. They were stagnant. That was basically Butch Davis in a nutshell. He's recruit pretty well but won't win any championships and won't outcoach anybody.

Butch Davis can't hold Richt's jock as a coach. Not even close.

Butch's strength was talent evaluation. He might have Richt beat on that but coaching? Not a chance.

Where are you guys coming up with this stuff?

Like Saban

The last time Saban was hired for a job he was 55.

Nice try.

So you're saying no school would want to hire Saban now. Or 65yr old Belichick, the other failed Browns coach. Brilliant.

It's entirely possible to like our current good coach Richt and our good-great ex coaches, like Butch, architect of the greatest team in college football history. It need not be a false dichotomy.
Coming up with specious, dumb reasons doesn't help.

Butch's strength was talent evaluation.

That doesn't get you hired to NFL. You're in Dunning-Kruger territory now.
One must be a good-great gameday coach, or you're not sniffing NFL. That's why Butch finished here 11-1 in 2000, blasting the Gators in bowl game and by all accounts, robbed of national championship appearance. To the point where they changed the BCS selection system.

The program was not in shambles in 1995.
You obviously weren't born then. Butch took over the Canes saddled with the worse probation in NCAA history and rebuilt them into a juggernaut, 11-1 by 2000, undefeated champs by 2001. That was his teams.

Richt inherited a poor team, but nothing remotely like what Butch had to deal with, 30 scholarship loss. Again, you're in Dunning-Kruger territory with your reading up history. The situations are entirely different.
The jury is still out on Richt. He has done a remarkable job so far and fully deserves everyone support, for years to come.
That in no way justifies trashing Butch and posting idiocy about what he did here.
