Miami fan raises $1.5K to fly 'Fire Al Golden' banner at VT

Tell us about all the times that great coaches contacted other schools first.

Never happened. Every coach is happy where he is at. Then one day the phone rings. "Honey? Texas is on the line. Do you like it in Louisville or not?"

You can either give me some examples of coaches who contacted other schools first like you said would have happened at Miami or you can make irrelevant posts. I think we know which direction you're going to go.

It's an argument against flying a banner, yeah.

Look, we encounter this every **** time we look for a new coach. The media tee off on the fact that we've got a crappy fan base who doesn't show up for games, that we don't have an on-campus stadium, that our facilities can't match most other teams, etc. All flying a banner does is confirm the media opinion that UM fans suck.

Again, show me one positive media piece about it and I'll listen. Show me one positive outcome that has ever been directly related to flying a banner and I'll listen. Otherwise, you're the one with the ****ty argument.

And the media doesn't hire our coach. We do. We're using them to bring attention to a legit concern. Where will positive come? When they fire the coach and not before.

As for the fans showing up...this is a smaller private school. This is expected and we never had good attendance numbers. Get over it already. It is irrelevant as to whether our fans have a pulse or whether the banner is a good idea.

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/67513/team-by-team-attendance-numbers

The only thing the banner does is bring attention to a concern. The concern is a legit concern because the product is terrible.

The most negative thing is the actually results in the games, the banner is nothing. Stop having a hissy fit because our 3rd straight coach is terrible. Stop ****ing about the banner and find something else.

The sad pare is you care more about a banner then about the product.

The sad part is you really can't read.

I want Golden gone. I want to win again. Never said anything different. I just know that a banner is a stupid idea and does nothing but draw negative attention. That you and others can't see that fact is a sad statement.

So if it does nothing, why are you arguing? Why do you care? Move the *** on already.

Again with the reading comprehension problems, I see.

I said "it does nothing but draw negative attention." See that bolded part? I care about things that bring negative attention to UM at a time when we don't really need more of it.

You are so ignorant to how this works that you think there is a link on ESPN when it happens.

Here's the lesson: coaches reach out to schools through their agents. They do this quietly, because it's bad form to announce that you're applying for another job. Alums and AD's don't react to that too well. If there is no mutual interest, it goes away. If there is interest, wow, an interview occurs.

I didn't know that people still didn't know this.

But throw out another insult when secretly you realize that you just learned something.

As do I. That is why I want the HC out of town. He brought the negative attention by going 14-13 in the ACC.

See the actual NEGATIVE performance comes first. This is why people are flying the banner. There not flying a banner just to fly a banner.

The worst thing right now impacting the program is the HC. This brings the most negative attention. What is more negative then losing?

Yeah, but you KNOW for certain this hasn't happened at Miami and Miami has just made the wrong choices. Good call. More AntwanJ mind-reading.

Like Dan Mullen?

Right, performance sucks. Remind me how flying a banner will help to improve performance? Remind me of the many times that flying a banner has directly led to a coaching change?

Again, flying a banner doesn't accomplish anything other than adding more negative attention on top of an already bad situation.

What about Dan Mullen? He was a corch until he got a QB.

You think it has to be "mind reading" because you have absolutely zero connection to anyone who knows anything at UM. In your middle class world, it has to be on Sportscenter or else it didn't happen.

Oh, and not sure if anyone here forgot, but Miami interviewed Dan Mullen, who wanted this job. He was "too ****y" and they moved on from him.

Blame the morons conducting the searches, there's a wealth of hungry, young, talented coaches that would kill to prove themselves at Miami.

The Dan Mullen who was on the hot seat 10 months ago and finally has a senior/junior filled roster and a legit QB in year six? Same guy?

No, it was actually the Dan Mullen that took over a program that:

- Averaged 3.5 wins a season since 2001
- Averaged the 50th ranked recruiting class the 5 years before he arrived
- Was an annual basement-dweller in the conference
- Played inside the toughest conference in the country
- Were an impressive 5-35 in conference the 5 years before he was hired

But I like how you've already worked in the subtle "see how long it took him! Lighten up on AL!" angle.

You lose. Yet again.

You lose. Yet again.

And they were all of those things WAAAAAY back in 2013. You know, last year.

Not a single person on this board praised Dan Mullen in year 5. That's how reactionary you people are.

and the straw man goes up in flames... yawn...

I'm sure he will tell you that Petrino was thrilled to be at Western Kentucky. Never reached out to anyone.

Why are we flying a banner? We're upset and want to bring attention.

Will it DIRECTLY lead to a coaching change? No. Does it have to though? If the point is to bring attention and it does bring attention then the banner worked.

See this chit performance came first, there is nothing else that matters other then the chit performance. This is the only NEGATIVE that matters.

My suggestion is to either

A. Fly a different banner, or

B. Ignore it.

First, you idiot, Dan Mullen was one of the bigger up and coming coaches back when we were hiring Golden. Him being a corch until he got a QB isn't relevant, but him being somebody who was garnering interest from plenty of other teams is relevant. Just like Golden, at points, who had UCLA and Wisconsin reach out to him (see Antwan, coaches talking to other schools does sometimes make ESPN). And you cite Charlie Strong--another guy who was a corch until he got a QB. Can you at least pretend to be consistent for more than a few pages?

Second, another lame AntwanJ insult full of dumbass assumptions. You haven't provided a list of all these great coaches who reached out to other schools, but not Miami. In fact, you haven't said anything or provided any examples that back up your horse-**** statement. All you've done is call me middle class. Uh, good job bud.

Adding negative attention is a good thing.

I know it's hard for some of you to get this through your thick skulls...but the more pressure on the administration, the better.

To say it's not doing anything is the equivalent of sticking your head in the ground. It's getting plenty of attention.

Get heat on coach, coach gets asked question, either fired or quit or by miracle realize people are unhappy with that crap. Stop being condescending to fans with his retarded excuses and ridiculous defense of No D.....and finally make some drastic changes to what he is doing. And BTW negative attention is the point.

You call yourself middle class every time you click Send. You're not a very smart guy, you're easily angered, you can't recognize a troll job, and if you had anything important to do you wouldn't have 10,000 posts.

I see a third option: try to convince people like you to stop reveling in the fact that you're bringing negative attention to UM fans.

People around the country are aware of the fact that we suck. You're an idiot if you think that a silly banner is going to make a lightbulb go off in people's heads and suddenly convince them that we suck.

All it's doing is confirming the nationwide opinion that UM fans put more pride into flying a banner to embarrass their coach than attending games and supporting their team on a regular basis.

Again, I've provided three links that show negative attention in the media...I've yet to see anyone write an article saying "Y'know, UM fans are doing a good thing by flying that banner! It's opened my eyes to the fact that UM sucks and Golden should go!" I've asked several times now for anyone here to provide me a link to such an article, but no one has come through yet.

Like the heat isn't on Golden without the banner?

Like Manny and others in the media are not already ****ed at Golden for avoiding the hard questions?

Point is you're only bringing negative attention to the fans..
