Miami Expected To Be A Big Player In Houston DB Transfer A.J. Haulcy

Could Williams rescheduling be a good sign (eternal optimist pov)? Maybe they secured Haulcy (wishful thinking)?

Keep in mind that the plan might be to secure a “plug and play” one-year rental (Haulcy or Williams) and a depth piece with multiple years of eligibility (Smith or King). If so, maybe we secured part A of that plan.

I know…hope is a dangerous drug.

I'd be surprised if we lose out on Haulcy.

Hope you're right. I think Safety is the most important position we need to upgrade at via the portal. We need a WR1, but if we happen to have to ride that group I feel better about that group than I do the Safety room.

Do they all have to sign somewhere today or tomorrow? When is the deadline?

How many times do we have to go through this?

Today is the last day to submit paperwork. Regardless of whether a person's name appears on the list, Miami will know TODAY which of its players want to enter the Portal.

Once everyone is IN the Portal, they can be signed between now and August.

You just have to be officially in the portal by today. Once you're in, you can go wherever you want, whenever you want.

At least I think that's true. Someone feel free to kick me in the **** for being wrong if I am.

Paperwork has to be SUBMITTED to the university today. Schools can still wait 48 hours to release the paperwork to the NCAA.

Or never submit the paperwork, in the case of Wisconsin.

and like Wisconsin a player can choose not to enroll at their current school next semester and enroll elsewhere, circumventing the portal

Yeah this is an important point we go through every portal window

The “deadline” hits and then depending on the school a day or two later you’ll hear more names

IIRC there was a window that “closed” on Friday but we were still getting names on Wednesday or so of the following week because schools were talking business days and whatnot

True. Problem is, when would said player enroll?

I believe there is less time between now and the last day of Summer registration than there was between end of December classes and the last day to register for Spring.

It could be done, but the calendar is tight.

The point of @JayCane20 's post is that Miami is trying to keep kids on the roster. It's not a foolproof plan, but any player who wants to leave because of who we take in the Portal would have to move quickly and precisely to land with a new team before August.

Agree with all that. I was just pointing out out that it could be done, and isn't a complete failsafe. Technically a kid just needs to enroll for the fall semester to play next season.
