To see if a corner is legit they have to throw his way, and see what he does with the guy he’s covering. Is he completely uncovered 3 yards away regularly and giving up catches? Then yea he’s basic. If the wr is making contested catches? Is he making it difficult? Who is the wr? There are a lot of factors man.


We got a new X though who is legit on tape so not worried

I'm not getting your point, or you're not reading the stats in the article. 'Opposing passers completed just 36.8% of their attempts against him, which was the third-lowest rate in the Power Four.' Why would I waste my time throwing at him?

Take a look at this list. Forget about Miami’s exclusion. Look at the names on the list. UF was a sieve, and Alabama couldn’t even block USF. And where is Notre Dame?

PFF is good for isolated things like pressure rate and where guys line up, but whenever they grade things like OL and pass defense they often look silly.

It’s amazing, mind blowing when PFF is a legitimate source & when it’s not. Lol.

For the record I thought OJ played very well under the circumstances; I also know he was out of position a lot that wasn’t picked on, but as a TF; best CB play we’ve had since probably 2017-18; I’m just laughing at using PFF to validate ur point when PFF was JUST laughed at.

What a time What you're saying is too vague. I can point out many corners who were out of s not use PFF to grade OJ. Name one game outside of Syracuse where he played poorly. You can't, and even in that game, he only gave up 80 yards.

What you're saying is too vague. I can point out many corners who were out of position last season, but the quarterback either didn't see the receiver or didn't throw to them. Let's not use PFF to grade OJ. Name one game outside of Syracuse where he played poorly. You can't, and even in that game, he only gave up 80 yards.

What are you talking about? OJ gave up 80 yards and one touchdown—what's so bad about that? All Power 4 cornerbacks last year, including top NFL draft picks, gave up 80+ yards in a game. Let's stop the false narrative. If you say they played poorly overall, I can agree. This kid allowed 14 receptions for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns while playing over 620 snaps. Show me 3-4 cornerbacks with better stats.

In that game, if memory serves, he was pulled for rotation because the play was so bad. And it got even worse from there.

Yes, he played well in other parts of the season, but the Syracuse game (GT as well) was such a step backward it certainly warrants questions that can only be answered through 1) who starts amongst the new DB room; and 2) IF OJ starts, how does he play against ND on opening day?

I could show you probably 50 DBs who played better on that Saturday against Syracuse and none of them had a ACCCG appearance nor CFPO appearance on the line.
