CBSSports released their list of College Football Next Household Names for 2025, and Miami Hurricanes defensive back OJ Frederique is included.

Freshman standout OJ Frederique Jr. was among the top defenders on the defensive side of the ball last season for Miami. He started seven out of the 13 games he played in and was a force to the Hurricanes defense last season.

Here is what CBS had to say about OJ:

“It's hard to have a much better true freshman season than OJ Frederique Jr., who finished as a True Freshman All-American in 2024 with 21 tackles, one interception and seven passes defended. Perhaps most importantly, Frederique rarely allowed completions. Opposing passers completed just 36.8% of their attempts against him, which was the third-lowest rate in the Power Four. Teams rarely bothered to even pick on the true freshman despite how often opponents had to throw to catch up to Miami's high-scoring offense. Frederique was targeted 36 times compared to 47 and 62 targets respectively for his fellow starters Jadais Richard and Daryl Porter. The 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore-to-be is a sure tackler with excellent ball skills. He'll continue to be one of the best cornerbacks in the country.”

Pro Football Focus also had the standout freshman as one of the best freshman defensive backs in the country.

OJ still has tons to get better at during the offseason but the future is bright for him.

OJ is a dawg, outside of the Cuse game which I'm still trying to remove from memory bro shut things down. Think him and Lucas have a chance to be on that list by seasons end if things go the way we hope.

Lmaooo I almost cried laughing reading this. Makes a lot of sense why I was always yelling at the TV for Richard to be in position.

I like OJ, but our defense was so bad that offenses could elect to go anywhere to avoid him. That doesn't mean OJ is the best CB in the country. It just means he was much better than our other back seven.

I'd actually put Lofton, JoJo, Bain, Francis ahead of OJ as the next household name people will know from Miami.

OJ wasn't very good the last 2 games but I can attribute that to a freshman wall, hopefully. the body of work the rest of the season speaks for itself. If him and Lucas lock it down and Scott returns to '23 form this pass defense improves immeasurably overnight.

I believe OJ has a lot of talent. No one tested him last season until Cuse ate him up. He didn't have bad coverage against them, he just couldn't stop contested catches. He was challenged more than once. Sounds exactly like the praise Daryl Porter got his JR year when no one threw at him. He is going to be challenged to start. You have to love our CB room going into Fall. Some serious talent. Go Canes!

It’s a great Problem to have but OJ Federique will have to beat out Demari Brown Physical Style Corner.
Which Miami will Need Vs Notre Dame
Especially with Malachai fields .
