Miami-Dade County

we can't keep losing these players.

I'd love to land Cooper, Johnson, and Russell. Don't care much for Bell and portal clearly is better for QBs as of now. Now if we only land 1 or 2 of them, I'm ok so long as we land Nic (WR at MNW) and 1-2 of the top 5 next year. Mario and Co have done a dang good job of landing national recruits and portal kids. While it would be nice to put a fence up, NIL makes that nearly impossible at this point. SOOOO we go take kids from other areas. The key IMO is better evaluations and development.

Do you think the talent has been declining, or other areas of the country are just catching up? It seems to me like year in and year out, top tier talent still comes from SoFla and makes plays on NFL sundays.
Are you shocked 2 of 3 played at a private school and the other one is a DE (less mentally intensive position)?

I was on the Mendoza train because I think he would have been a safe/smart game manager type.

But his ascension up the draft boards is more about most of these websites just jumping on the big performers weekly.
It also appears to be a relatively weak draft class. Outside of Jeremiah Smith, who are the guys around the country that you look at and say he's a top 5 or top 10 talent? Talent in CFB appears down right now. (I started a thread about this a couple weeks ago.)

Agreed...there are a lot of good college players. But not many where you say "holy **** that guy is going to be a problem in the NFL for years to come"

Thats why Cici, Bain, and maybe even Bell and Beck would all have a shot depending on how their seasons play out. Its also a reasons why Bain could be a top 10 guy even though he may not light up a combine. He is just showing traits beyond a 40 and bench press...imagine that.

I'd love to get them, but we could still have a fantastic class even if we miss on Cooper, Russell, and Johnson. Cooper I'd like to get as a LB. As a RB, not sure I'd pay him an astronomical sum. Russell has great tools to work with, but probably not ready to produce as a FR. May not be worth a bidding war especially if he's dividing time between football and basketball. Johnson I like and we certainly need more DTs in this class. But again it's a matter of whether our resources would be better spent elsewhere.

We have have a strong NIL, but it's not unlimited and there's always an opportunity cost.

Even during our dominant years, we were losing out on plenty of local guys, but we still got talent.

I'm happy for the local kid from my alma mater, but let's wait until they play Oregon and Penn St. before making any proclamations. They've played Old Dominion, Kennesaw State, Indiana State, and Illinois. (I watched the Illinois-Duke game and was NOT impressed with Illinois.)
Wayyy too logical and sensible. Stop it.

Illinois was also missing its top 5 CBs

Sweeping up the best would be Cooper, Johnson, Dia Bell, Russell, which are all going elsewhere right now. That's what we need, but are falling short. Maybe Mario can work some late magic. Texas pushing our teeth in with these local 5*. This still hasn't changed and we need it to. So sick of this.

One more point-
Bell is considered a 5*

Mendoza was a 3* that got to play a lot early at Cal.
I'm ok if we take 3-4* kids like Coleman, Luke... maybe we land Neimann Lawrence who is likely a 4-5*.
Overall, the talent pool in South Florida is still really good even if we don't include the IMG transfer types.

I am starting to trust the Miami staff's evals across the board. CB portal plus OJ... pretty dang good. WR portal plus freshman... dang good. OL... DL - Blay, Moten, Scott, heck even Russell moving inside, Simpson... not to mention the studs at DE/Jack.

While I'd love to have more kids from South Florida wanting to stay, I'll trust their evals.

Question:

4 games into season, is everyone satisfied Miami "got their man" in Beck or would another QB1 have been an even better fit?

For me, yes other athletes have been good, but I wouldn't swap any of them for Beck at this point.
I wouldn’t mess with what we have but Beck still scares the **** out of me
