Difference is Bama fans show up to games. They've always had sell-outs, even in the Gene Stallings, Mike DuBose and Mike Shula years. Their fans are rabid and they give money to that school like nobody else in the game, aside from maybe ND or Texas. ****, Bama boosters paid off the mortgage on Saban's house, to the tune of 3.1 million bucks. So they've got skin in the game.
Our fans can't be bothered to show up to games or to give to the university. They want us to win like Bama, and to pay for a coach like Saban and all his assistants, but they don't want to put in the effort or money to actually support the team.
It's the South Florida way, and the curse of being a "microwave dynasty." We're more concerned with being seen at high-profile games, being associated with a winner, as long as it doesn't cost us much money or effort. And if things go wrong and the team doesn't do well, well somebody in the UM admin better get their shnit together! But don't expect the fans to pay any money; we'll whine like Bama fans and fly banners instead, so that we can get a few tweets and some coverage on ESPN and Yahoo!
