MELTDOWN! - WE ARE THE MOST REASONABLE FANS IN CFB

Sabans been missing on targets n its why they struggling and other teams r getting better..........now if we can wake the *** up
Saban is known to hate staying at a place for too long. He has stud classes. I think he doesn't enjoy the coaching when it's in cruise control and fans have the kind of expectations they currently have at Bama. I believe he complain about that a year or two ago and was interested in getting out. Wouldn't be surprised to hear his name for the Texas job again if strong continues to lose.

One loss in the SEC gets manure dumped on your lawn, a moving van out to the house and the usual yahoo redneck screeds. Two losses you get not so veiled death threats.

No, it has nothing to do with recruiting. Alabama has more talent, based on recruiting rankings, than EVERY team they play.

Saban has been unable to adapt to uptempo spread offenses - that is why they've lost.

this too, was going to mention it

Funny I remember it like you t was time for Coker to go... But looking back, did he get a fair shake?I remember thinking he got lazy. But a lot of people think he got a bad deal including a lot of players that played for him. What's your take?

Great post, Chuckles. Bingo for many of us who grew up here, and maybe even attended a class or two in summers, but the U was always the home team. Bigger than the Fins, because we love the kids, love the grit where they come from, and it's all home grown. The school is great, but it's not what makes us huge fans. Now, my family does go to U Health for major issues, but that's because they are great too at what they do. But that's got nothing to do with football.

QUOTE=Chuckles;2295889]From time to time we get a post from some UM alumnus or current student snob who disses football fans because they didn't contribute financially to the school. This is for you.

I am an alumnus of the University of Tennessee. I am a UM fan. I have attended games for fifty+ years. My children are UM football fans.

Two are college grads, none attended the U. I have been a season ticket holder for decades, and have traveled coast to coast. Almost all of the trips were with a core group that over the years included my friend's grown children and their friends. These friends include FSU and Auburn grads, all hard core Canes fans. I have only casual interest in Vols football and it would probably take free airfare, hotel, and game tickets to get me to one.

We are all hard-core fans because we all from Miami-Dade and have enjoyed UM football from the days before and during when it changed the face of modern football. I was in the stands in the OB, JRS, underwear park and whatever.

Despite holding my nose at the level of coaching I still get excited about UM football because I know there will be good athletes on the field.

Honestly, in my opinion the University of Miami is not that great a school. It has a nice little campus, but there are many great ones across the country. That's not to say I don't believe one can't get a good education there. A good education is a function of a student's effort+peers+teachers and, in some disciplines, maybe facilities. None of this matters much to me. Oh, I almost forgot, my best friend who's done almost all of this with me did sent his son to UM. He's the one who, as a student, used to sit in the upper corner of the OB and read a book and has never traveled to an away game as a student or a graduate because he doesn't give a ****.

I watch UM football because I grew up with it and because of the great football experiences over the years, not because I feel compelled to support the band, the hospital, the marine facility, whatever. Without Canes football there is no "The U" there is only a smallish private school in Coral Gables attended by mostly people from out of town. Not to be totally negative, I love attending Canes baseball, concerts, and theater. Did I mention the girls at UT are better looking?

Feel free to "fire for effect."[/QUOTE]

Saban's day are numbered.

Seriously...

In the last 3 years (since the last NC), Alabama has lost 5 games. Here are those 5 losses:

1. @ #4 Auburn (NC) on an insane play, kick six.
2. Sugar Bowl against #11 Oklahoma
3. @ #11 Ole Miss
4. Sugar Bowl against # 4 OSU (NC)
5. #15 Ole Miss

I doubt he is worried about losing his job. The guy is either the best coach or 2nd best coach in college. He has set new standards for that school, they will not run him out of town and his days are not numbered.

Nick Saban will be the Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts next year.

Bama also wasn't on probation for 3 years and lost mad scholarships. They also didn't get hurt by recruiting and have tons of schools raid there background and get negatively recruited. Are fans are the worst and most delusional fan base in college football. Straight idiots!!!
Y'all don't know **** !!!
Can't wait to see y'all put y'all foots in your mouths.

I assume you're addressing me. While we're whipping out our ****s, I'll tell my story.

I'm not a UM alum. Undergrad at UF, grad school at FSU, because my folks couldn't afford the tuition at a private school.

My father grew up in Hialeah in the 50s/60s. Grew up a lifelong UM fan. Also could not afford the tuition. Went to FAU, but attended UM games religiously for 25+ years, before moving out of the area to northern FLA in the mid-80s.

While we lived in So Fla, I attended games religiously with him. Also attended tons of UM baseball games.

When we moved to No Fla, we'd trek two to three times a year to make games until he died in the late 90s. Last game was VT in the OB in 98.

After he died, I carried on the tradition while attending grad school at FSU. I road tripped to So Fla for long weekends, often by myself, as all my friends were Nole fans (or fans of their respective undergrad schools).

After grad school, I moved to NC, and while I no longer have the ability to trek to So Fla on the regular, I try to make a game a year at JRS, and I attend whatever games are near me in NC.

I got into UM football because of my father, and I grew up in the midst of UM's era of greatness. It's been awesome, and still is. I still get pumped before every season. I still get chills. I've seen tons of great games.

Here's the thing, though--and here's the difference between you and me, Chuckles. Even though neither my father nor I went to UM, we always respected UM as a school. We always knew that without the university, there would be no Hurricane football. I know that UM's small class size, like many other private colleges, has its advantages over the mammoth classes I took as a freshman and sophomore at UF. I know that, were I to have gone through with my 9th grade dream of becoming a marine biologist, there'd have been no better place than UM. When my mom was diagnosed with cancer, her doc in Jacksonville immediately put her in touch with a specialist from UM at Jackson Memorial and suggested that my mom go there instead of anywhere else in FLA.

Aside from that knowledge and respect, my father also provided me with the knowledge that you have to pay into what you like, if you want it to remain. Not just by buying tickets to games, but also by supporting the larger enterprise of the school and the athletic dept. Even though he wasn't an alum, he gave a few hundred each year to UM...half to whatever funding drive the university had going on at the time, and half to the AD. Having grown up in the era when UM was crap and nearly gave up football, he didn't want to see that happen again, and he did his part to prevent it.

I do the same.

Thinking about the team he had if is hard to think he got bad deal. He failed to have a Miami type QB replacement for Ken. Berlin was a shotgun QB before his time. Larry should noticed his shortcoming and, not having another choice, change the offense to fit the talent he had. Anyone watching Berlin in the two minute could tell that he was born to it. If you are going to coach Miami you HAVE to have the QBs for it. Until Butch got Ken he too failed. Kaaya is the 1st we have had since Ken.

Ran into coach Coker at airport last summer,we both had a delayed flight. Got the feeling from talking to him that he wishes he had redo on the whole situation and would do things differently. One heck of a nice guy who did not seem to holding any grudges just regrets. Can't help but root for him Utsa,I told him in leaving I know a few of his ex-players and they still speak very highly of him. He seemed to appreciate that.fwiw

Having 10-12 NFL players on our roster last year makes that argument sound silly. Slightly less NFL talent than Bama last year, many many less wins though with a much much weaker schedule.

That's nice. He seemed to be a very nice guy who, like randy, would have never left. We are a brutal fan base on coaches. It is glamor and fame here. Those can be extremely short-lived. Any coach coming here must be a someone shooting for NFL. No lifer can survive. Come, win a NC or two, wave nice and kiss us good-bye. For us, it is then rinse and repeat. St Bobby or Joe Pa could not have survived here -- too few NC is to many years. Maybe the Bear, but I am not sure about even him. Thanks for the info about Larry. Does seem like all our former coaches have some sort of pull in there hearts for THE U. Maybe we are not such a horrible fan base.

Excellent response, we have much in common. With regards to financial support, guess I failed to mention the years in the Hurricane Club (before it was compelled) and my friends' contributions including the one who paid full fare to send his kid there. The educational value he got for his large checks and donations are no better than FIU or other schools. I don't disrespect the school as a whole (the administration appears to be lacking in a number of areas) but you appear to have a higher opinion of it as an institution than I do. There are many other schools I would choose for my grand kids, but if they picked Miami, fine, there are cheaper and better options but I would not be the one paying. We can agree to disagree.
