Mel Tucker has a very good résumé. Probably the best out of any DB coach in the nation. I'm guessing if Mario is our head coach, which I know 99% of us don't want, Mel would be brought along as the DC. How do you guys feel about that?

The hiring of Vic Fangio as Bears defensive coordinator officially closes a dark chapter in Chicago defense, in more ways than simple points.

At one point during the Bears’ season-ending loss to the Minnesota Vikings, defensive coordinator Mel Tucker was seen on the sideline with tears in his eyes. The easy joke would be something about the Bears’ defense moving anyone to tears, but Tucker’s unhappiness was much more about what he could see slipping away from him.

“Really great group of guys to work with, they’re eager to learn,” Tucker said in what was his final in-season availability. “They have a really strong work ethic and they care greatly about football and about the team.”

Tucker’s sadness was well-founded. A second straight disastrous season on defense, in which opponents again scored 400 points on the Bears, cost Tucker his job.

The Bears finished 31st in the NFL allowing 27.6 points per game and 30th in yards per game with 377.1 per game. The defense held no team to fewer than 13 points (Atlanta, Minnesota I and II, Tampa Bay) this season and no team to fewer than 20 in 2013.

Only once in the last 40 years (2002) has a Bears defense failed to hold at least one opponent under 13 points.

SIGN ME UP!

Very good resume? His two years as the Bears' DC from 2013-2014 resulted in the two worst defenses in the 95-year history of that storied franchise. They ranked 30th out of 32 teams in total defense both years.

Mario as head coach is worst case scenario. Tucker as DC would be just as bad. Put them both together along with James Coley staying and you might as well self impose the death penalty.

Everybody gets a promotion!!! Is the Bama ballboy gonna be our next OC too? He once washed Saban's car. Something must have rubbed off.

I swear to god our fans try to out-dumb each other every day. And somehow each time you all succeed.

**** no! i watched his horrible defense as a bear fan every sunday it was awful, he even had our D linemen doing read and react two gapping, he was basically hated among chicago bear fans as much as donofrio is with the canes. both teams had historically bad defenses with those guys at the helm

No, but consider Tosh Lupoi has been rumored to come along in a key role as well.

If you were in front of me, swear I would attack you. Don't you EVER bring up Mel Tucker's name on any of these threads EVER again. I watched him DESTROY my Bears defense as a coordinator. Worst defense in the history of the organization by a mile. Get that fake hairline **** out of my face!

MOAR recruiters! Less coaches.

That'll work!

I thought he was in some **** with the NCAA from when he was at Washington? Fantastic. I wouldn't exactly call this "raiding" the Bama staff.

Lmao. Mario has become the bane of this program.

Get that **** out my face.

Can we just shut the program down?

Everything he said. If cue card Tucker (his play sheet was a cue card) is hired I will never give another cent to UM

Whats crazy is.....Bamas DB's actually suck duck for how well they recruit. Name a notable corner doing well in the nfl from bama's of recent?
