MEGA Mega Merged Stadium Thread.

I was just told by a very reputable source that Elon Musk is building a stadium for us on the moon and he’s going to be constructing a vacuum tube like you see in the drive-thru at banks that will suck students from a location on bird road to the moon via the high velocity chute.

Exciting times, boys! Buckle up!
So... not on campus?

Lol. Even rsa gives it better odds than you.

You can make up whatever #s you want. How much is centennial village gonna cost? How much is the football facility going to cost? 10 years ago, I’m sure people like you were saying the towers would never come down until Andrew 2.0 knocked them down - yet, here we are.

If it’s just a money question, anything is possible.
the village isn't costing 1 billion plus my man. its only 335 mill on land the school owns. this is buying the land that the school doesn't own bc there is no space on campus and on top of that construction costs. its gonna be a well over 1 billion project once its all said and done If RSAs land value estimates are correct and no reasons why they wouldn't be considering his day job.

i used HRS as a measure of the size of the stadium, +/-. you are right, it can be smaller but it doesn't change the result. the time for having a stadium owned by UM near the campus is over and it won't come back again unless someone wants to gift the school +/-$2B and and then the school decides to use that money or part of it for a stadium. i am convinced very few people on here understand the legal, finance and regulatory issues/hurdles.

the tribe that purchased Magic City won't be building a stadium, they will make billions off of a new revamped casino site.

i don't pay for the herald and won never do so. before this woke stuff happened and before the internet became a thing, they were a terrible organization. it has only gotten worse since then and i cannot wait for their demise.
people think stadium this and stadium that bc its easy to type not understanding the county, the issues that go w it, and the finances behind it all.

Never said it did cost over a billion, just pointing out that the school seems to be on a bit of a building run (despite many people, for years, saying it would NEVER happen). Last estimate I saw was 350 million (and climbing), throw in the football facility and we are at over 1/2 a billion in ongoing construction projects - what's 1 more project and another billion dollars?

With enough cash and clout, anything is possible. Even you could get yourself into some scenario where it’s possible that Sofia vergara might trip and fall, open mouthed, right onto your lap.
yes, i agree with the bolded statement, but i don't see UM making that push on its own, Ruiz isn't the one to do it and no one has taken the lead.

so, with respect to sofia, you mean there's a chance.

i deplore donna shalala with every iota of my DNA. however, to her credit, she raised $3B +/- for the U, including centennial village. that money was raised a decade ago.

i like him throwing money around as if it doenst have to come from somewhere.

she was a good fundraiser (donna) but building stuff on your OWN property is very diff from buying out land somewhere in the county that fits the parameters that CIS wants (close to campus which is stupid considering the students barely make up any percentage of your attendance at games and they care the least amongst all parties) along with getting the county to allow the sale of that land if it isnt private. there are very few private land spaces left in the county and whatever is left is insanely expensive as developers are bidding for it from all over. i dont see the school going that route esp for a building that will only house 6-7 games a year.

lol in other news, what will the population of actual born and raised miami residents be the way the insurance market is going. everyone will be insured by citizens at some point lol. the city will be a bunch of new yorkers living in overtown or whatever theyre trying to call it now once the gentrification is done. its a shame about whats happening in miami now. its a very diff place in terms of people.

tech that Fla Live arena will be empty once the panthers move to downtown FTL.

we could become the new indoor football league team in miami

Where are they building an arena downtown? I honestly don't pay much attention to hockey so that's news to me.

Big difference between crucial infrastructure like dorms and an on campus stadium, which even at best will not even be within easy walking distance of campus.

sorry theyre moving their ops there (training facility and eveyrthing) i need to edit it. theyre also redoing war memorial too as part of their project. its all privately funded at 65 mill

I can’t think of a single land parcel where you could build a stadium that’s within ANY walking distance from campus. I just don’t believe that land exists. If I’m wrong, somebody tell me where that is.

it doesnt exist. tropical park is the closest youll get and that isnt walking distance but we already heard that they will pass soemthing that will basically end that pipe dream.

the one that TOC talked about is interesting. still not walking distance (look that entire area is built out now) but close access to highways i believe.

i think the best method is to see where your STHers are and find a location that best benefits the large majority. they have all our addresses so they can pinpoint it relatively quickly. imo, thatll prolly end up looking like w where were at now (in the northern part of miami dade county that has easy highway access for everyone to get in and get out relatively quickly) and convenient for residents from all three counties to get to. that appears to be a sticking point with CIS citing location sucks, but in actuality, a new stadium in a similar location is probably the best and most central for the majority of the STHers. it takes the same amount of time for someone living in FTL to get to HRS as it does for someone living in Kendall (give or take due to highway access).

I was just down there a week ago. Unless someone is going to buy up acres of already developed properties and bulldoze the whole thing, it's not possible.

Exactly. I haven’t been on campus since a couple of months ago for a basketball game, so ditto.

****, US1 and adjacent roads are a nightmare when you’re trying to go to a baseball game, which is much less attended usually than basketball. Try going to one of those six or 7 PM basketball games during the week. Have fun sitting in your car.

I can’t imagine the infrastructure being there for a stadium within a two or three or 4 mile radius from campus, much less the land that you’re talking about which doesn’t exist, as you know.
