Media whining about Miami’s close wins

"MIAMI WON'T GO UNDEFEATED!" ... thanks for the hot take, American Sports Media.

No one on God's Green thought we'd get to the end of October without a loss either...lets just let the year play out and take one game at a time. Everyone trying to blow their load to say Miami ain't for real because the eventual loss is obvious...but who cares? We are undefeated right now and will be favored every game to finish the season...fvck'em all.

Sports Illustrated (Shocker) was going after Miami today too for it

Miami: Let’s be realistic: This is not The U of old, despite the 6–0 record. The Hurricanes keep finding improbable ways to win, and it will be a shock if they get through November unscathed. Miami has won its last three games by a combined 13 points.

I have zero issues with this statement. Miami is not back. We have struggled winning most of our games; however, we are winning! That is what truly matters. Keep winning. Win the Coastal once and for all by beating a good VT team at home. Shock the world by beating this ND team destroying everyone. Then, the entire nation will **** the bed.

Clemson and FSU both did this on their playoff runs yet wet didn’t hear nearly as half of the criticism that they weren’t impressive or not good. The agenda is as clear as day period....

Much ado about nothing. Simply because the national college pigskin pundits will generally find a ' bone to pick ' with Miami. hUh.

we will have to beat UNC at least as convincingly as VT did or the nay-sayers will not rest next week. We still control our own destiny which is the best we can hope for at this point. Win out and we will end up in the playoffs regardless of the nay-sayers.

That's why Cane rowdies should LAY the points! Because Miami is going to score and score and score and score and score some more against lowly Carolina Blue. hUh.

If you haven't watched the games and only paid attention to the final scores (like a majority of the national media), you'd question Miami's validity at this point too. The facts are Miami has slug-fest win against rival FSU, a last second win against GT in a game that statistically, Miami dominated, and another close win against Syracuse in a game that Miami took it's foot off the pedal and allowed to get too close. They're a few dropped passes, an onside kick return for touchdown and a couple of mental breakdowns away from blowing out both Tech and Cuse. Those are the differences between being a really good team and a really great team. It seems they've found the formula for winning, they just need to get more consistent.

I generally agree with you. But the bolded argument goes both ways. Had those two unbelievable catches not gone our way, we'd have two losses. Some in the media are skeptical, because of these very close wins against less than top competition. If we remain undefeated with wins over VT and ND, we'll be ranked, where we should be. If we then beat Clemson, we will absolutely be in the playoff.

The whining is not from the media.
GT and FSU have every chance to beat Clemson and nobody should be shocked when one of them does.

I said it at the beginning of the year, this was best GT team in a while. They will finish top 20 and knock off either Clemson GT or Georgia

FSU can just play spoiler now, they are as talented as Clemson so who knows

Mighty FSU sucks this season. So they WON'T play the ' spoiler! ' dUh. Matter of fact, there's an excellent chance FSU finishes with a losing season. OUCH.

Meh.

Worrying about national respect and all this fabricated, "they don't want to see us back" is bogus.

Canes are 6-0 and won the past three games by a combined score of 13 points—against a very down Florida State squad, an average Georgia Tech bunch and a hyped Syracuse team that eked out a win over Clemson, sans their starting quarterback the entire second half.

Need to roll North Carolina—the Hokies setting a bar with a 59-7 win last weekend—and then take care of quality teams in Virginia Tech and Notre Dame.

Beat the Hokies and Irish get to 9-0 and nobody will be talking about Miami being untested or winning close games against average teams.

Lose to either of those squads and all the supposed "haters" will be proven correct.

Enough with the, "us against the world" stuff. Not applicable here. Canes are finding ways to win, but haven't once looked elite the way Alabama, Penn State, Georgia, TCU or even one-loss Clemson have this season.

Sloppy against Bethune-Cookman. Needed second half rally to top Toledo. Beat a sub-par Duke squad in their house. Needed a come-from-behind win against a two-win Florida State squad yet to win at home this year. Needed to stay alive late against a one-dimensional Georgia Tech team. Couldn't put away Syracuse, despite reeling in four first half interceptions (and only leading 13-3 at intermission.)

Looking at this through unbiased eyes, hard to consider Miami next-level at this point, nor can any argument be made to have the Canes higher than No. 8.

Roll heads the next three weeks and all of that changes.

Let's play the "respect" game on Sunday November 12th if the Canes are still unbeaten. Until then, it's pointless.

Well, they’re calling us the “Ice in veins Canes.” That’s a good start.

I think we are a flawed team but to be totally discounted with arguments that they don't apply to other teams is laughable. Man for man vs ND the only unit they have an advantage in is OL.

This is the thing, if we were struggling with say Toledo and best them by 7 I would say the criticism i valid. Remember, they put us on upset alert v Duke...no worries we beat them 31-6 on a Friday night on the road.

Ok now we play FSU, upset alert again on the road, 7 str8 losses, and remember bar the QB, this was a team they started ranked #3 . Who have been in pretty much every game.

Then we have to turn around from that physical matchup to play a even more brutal matchup v GT, we shut their offense down after the first two drives and pretty much shot ourselves in the foot by gifting them a return TD on the onside kick. We won late.

Then we turn around and have to play Syracuse, a team that ran 93 plays against us if I'm right and let's not forget who just beat Clemson who the media has anointed Bama 2.0. We beat them and pummel the QB, who is a tough son of gun.

The thing is they can find excuses as to why FSU is losing and why Clemson lost to Syracuse and say oh it's injury. These are the two teams in the ACC with the best recruiting classes for the past 7-10 years bar none. But when we lose Walton for the year, lose multiple DBs, lose Richards for games, starting OL. No they don't speak about that , they don't give us credit for winning through that. They look at the box score and say oh we struggled, we are not good.

We have stopped ourselves in these games. Bar the FSU game where we didn't play well in the first half, we dominated pretty much every category. So we get no credit. Which is fine with me. Because let me tell you this. When they bring ND and VT in here and they have to adjust to the physicality with which we are playing they won't be ready for it. We knocked out GT FB and beat the **** out of Dungy. Our execution is just a little off in situations. But we are gonna be doubted all season regardless. We beat these teams they are going to turn and say we lose in the ACCCG or possible playoff. Get used to it folks.

Technically not the playoff era for fsu though, no?

Absolutely not true. The year they got smoked in the playoffs by Oregon, I remember distinctly telling FSU fans they have no chance at a championship because every week they were laboring just to get out of the week alive with a win.

I completely forgot the playoff existed that year

Wisconsin gets to play fcs teams all year and no one in the media bats an eye.... lol somebody's mad.

That team was falling behind 14 or 17 points every game and need crazy second halves. We are not putting teams away and giving them hope. I don't see us getting smoked no matter who we play. I'm confident in that.

Stop crying. We literally have an opportunity to earn respect by beating VT and ND

yep.

want to stop the crying? then just win. everything will take care of itself. people better be ready, because VT and ND will be tough games, and the Pitt game in late November is no cake walk either

Pitt has always been a cake walk and that won't ever change

We look like a team that is its own worst enemy at times. Close or not, I'll roll with this this squad in the fourth quarter. They keep finding ways to win.

As I also keep saying, I don't count anyone on our schedule out mostly. Losing to whomever wouldn't be a surprise to me at all. You keep playing close games, you'll eventually get burned.

They need to execute at a higher level or that first loss is right around the corner.

Who gives a ****? Why is this board so obsessed with what the media says about Miami or if we are getting the praise we deserve? It has always been that way. I don’t see it ever changing. Just win and you will get the Media blowing sunshine up your ***.

Locker Room Material. Wouldn't want the fellas getting big heads when they need to be at their hungriest, would we?

I could care less about what any media pundit is saying nor do I care that we have had to gut out wins. This team is being coached up and the PLAYERS have finally taken ownership. This has been a pleasure to watch so far, warts and all. This team competes, This team wore Syracuse out in the fourth quarter. Syracuse's offense was wore the **** out and they had nothing left to finish the game. All we kept hearing about was 75 plays, blah blah blah. We play like 30 guys on defense, our players are fresh in the fourth quarter, we finished the game in victory formation.
