McCluster announcing tomorrow

I think the portal makes it so Miami can get on a level playing field with the bag droppers. Dont have to buy 5 stars because they are going to want to transfer to Miami if they don't get PT elsewhere. Already paid, so it becomes a question of where to have fun and raise their profile. No better place than Miami. Wasn't the case before. Think about Clemson, Bama, and UGA. All had top tier talent look for greener pastures. I think if Martell had not come, Miami would have ended up with Hurts.

Definitely agreed.

Dude cmon. I’ve said from day one I don’t follow recruiting. Stop changing the argument.

Also, Who said coaches don’t evaluate players on their own? And who said they listen to recruiting services? You’re making things up.

The FACT is that recruiting services are accurate, and coaches evaluations largely line up with the players’ star ranking. Every year, the players w the most stars also happen to be the ones coveted by the elite coaches. It’s not because coaches use the recruiting service. It’s because the coaches evaluations mirror the recruiting services evals. Their is no denying this. Do yourself a favor too, don’t bother throwing out the outliers.

Also... kinda funny for a guy who claims to evaluate recruits on his own to be calling the people who evaluate recruits for a service nerds.

No, its because the recruiting services mirror who the coaches are offering, which is why a guy like dj johnson was rated where he was cause supposedly he had the most offers in that 2017 class, but came here and couldnt crack the lineup, doesnt mean he's a bust, he just maynot be a high level player at the college level right now or maybe never, but may end up doing better in the pro's than in college!

Definitely agreed.

Just to add- doing things others aren't doing in recruiting is the way Miami was built. Schnelly went into the inner city before coaches did that kind of thing. Took years for other programs to imitate. Then Davis rebuilt the program by finding elite talent before the recruiting services were in play. Now every coach has a scouting report, so the gems are much harder to find. Best talent gets paid, which is why no program outside the top 4 in bluechip ratio has won in the BCS era.

Then the NCAA changed its transfer rules and inadvertently put Miami back in the game. Used to be a program could pay for and stack 5 stars. If a kid lost reps or his position to a new 5 star, too bad. He was stuck. Now the kids can transfer whenever and more often than not are getting immediate eligibility. Programs generally aren't going to pay a 2nd time so then an elite 5 star kid looks around and says, "I'm getting the f#ck out of Tuscaloosa and going South Beach."

Manny is going to build on Miami's legacy of being innovative with recruiting. Yes, we really can compete. It's like Calipari at Kentucky with the 1 and dones. You can win if you understand how to take advantage of the system. There is no limit on the number of 4 and 5 star transfers- Manny can build a championship team now, basically with free agents (that dont actually cost any money!)

Ok then! Finally! You agree that recruit rankings are valid! So yea, stars do matter. Teams with more stars, assuming equivalent coaching, should win more than lose.

How a service decides player rankings doesn’t matter. That they’re stratifying the players properly does.
